A new *pro-Reform* UK think tank, the Centre for a Better Britain (CBB), was launched earlier this year by Reform's former chief operating officer Jonathan Brown and *two of the party's biggest donors.*

James Orr, an associate professor of philosophy of religion at Cambridge University, and *a friend of US Vice President JD Vance*, was appointed chairman of its advisory board.

Mr Orr is a leading figure in the *"national conservativism"* movement, and says his new think tank will be driven by a *"post-Brexit, pro-nation, pro-sovereignty, pro-Britain* impulse and framework".

Spurious Home Office decisions rejecting student visas are threatening universities' ability to enrol young people from abroad, it is claimed.

New rules come into effect in June that will punish universities if more than 4% of study visas are rejected by the Home Office.

However, the changes coincide with a marked increase in the numbers of visas being refused by the Home Office on spurious and inaccurate grounds, according to research by universities that has been shared with The Times. Neither students nor universities are able to challenge the decisions, which are often taken months after a university has accepted the applicant and in some cases just days before they are due to start studying.

Even if you didn't care about the grotesque cruelty to living animals in intensive factory farming techniques, surely we all care about the toxic effect on our rivers and air. Take note, the plea to call such farming “critical national infrastructure” will mean no protests are allowed near it!

Communities Against Factory Farming has said the proposed planning regime “risks embedding decades of industrial livestock land use in rural and green belt locations without adequate scrutiny”.

Maya Pardo, the lead campaigner for the group, said: “By directing decisionmakers to give ‘substantial weight’ to the economic benefits of livestock intensification, the proposal will effectively give a green light to megafarm expansion, despite well-documented damage to rivers, air quality and rural communities.”

He added the sector had to balance welfare with environmental impact and food security, saying that failing to support domestic production could lead to more imports. The BPC has also called for food production to be considered “critical national infrastructure”.

But Prof Paul Behrens, an expert in food systems at the University of Oxford, said the food security case for intensive poultry was “illusory” because the sector “depends on imports for feed and vitamins, while making us more vulnerable to disease outbreaks like avian flu”.

The poultry sector’s planning difficulties are largely driven by organised opposition, including local people, who often raise concerns over water pollution, air quality and the climate crisis.

Agriculture is the leading cause of water pollution in the UK. The Environment Agency estimated last year that it accounts for 70% of nitrate pollution and 25-30% of phosphorus pollution. Runoff from intensive poultry units is one contributor to that wider pollution burden.

Andrea's condition causes severe pain and can be life-threatening. Her surgery to remove the large ovarian cyst was stopped, along with prescribed meds. She is left in pain & in danger. But denial of medical care seems to be a policy, to coerce detainees to agree to be deported! This is sinister!

Centurion and Naphcare are accused of *forced inductions* of pregnant women and inhumane treatment. The way the women are treated is dehumanising and cruel. In one example...

Burnside says a correctional officer at Perryville then threatened to shackle her and keep her in restraints during the birth if she refused to be induced again. Such treatment of pregnant women is explicitly prohibited by state law.

Upon her return to Perryville, Burnside said she was kept in a dirty cell in the reception unit of the prison and not allowed to shower for four days. “I sat bleeding without pads for hours at a time after having an 8-pound child and being stitched up,” she said.

She said the experience has left her with lasting psychological damage.

Originally from Glenmore, C Kilkenny, Seamus Culleton is married to a US citizen and owns a plastering business in the Boston area. He was arrested on September 9th, 2025, and has been in an Ice detention facility in Texas for nearly five months, despite having no criminal record, "not
even a parking ticket". In a phone interview from the facility, he said conditions there are "like a concentration camp, absolute hell".

Culleton said he was carrying a Massachusetts driving licence and a valid work permit issued by the US government when he was pulled over by Ice on the way home from work in September.
His work permit was issued as part of an application for a green card which he initiated in April 2025. He has a final interview remaining.

I am relieved that a federal judge has ordered the immediate release of five year old Liam Conejos Ramos and his father. The court's ruling makes clear what never should have been in question: this child's detention was unlawful, unjustified, and deeply harmful.

The judge delivered a pointed reminder that, in his opinion,
the Constitution is not optional. He rejected the use of
administrative warrants, condemned the government's
disregard for basic constitutional principles, and made clear that traumatizing a child has no place in a nation that claims to be governed by the rule of law.

What I witnessed at the Dilley Detention Center was deeply alarming. A preschooler who was lethargic, not eating, and asking only for his mother and his school does not happen by accident - it is a direct consequence of this administration's actions. Unfortunately, Liam is not the
only child subjected to this treatment.

Let me be clear: this ruling does not erase the trauma
inflicted on Liam or his family. Accountability must follow. I will continue to conduct oversight to ensure the
Constitution is upheld.

Despite Sudan being described by the UN as the world’s worst humanitarian crisis, the response remains drastically underfunded. As of late 2025, the UN’s Sudan appeal was just 27 percent funded, largely affected by US funding cuts under the Trump administration.

Brown, however, insisted Sudan remains a top UN priority, pointing to repeated high-level visits by senior officials since she took up her post in September.

Still, she said she struggled to convey the scale of suffering.
