Demonetize A group of influencers are locked in a haunted house for a ghost-hunting tv show. Death ensues Thought I was going to hate this one but it was a really fun watch!
Debone Guy fights his way through a terribly evil world. Dark and cynical from beginning to end. The last shot of the film fucking shattered my heart
Dead Media After unlocking an extra special feature on a dvd, a group of folks have to fight their way through a horror movie (and behind the scenes footage). I enjoyed it as a love letter to the movie nerds in our lives. I think it overstayed its welcome by about 20 min
Catcam Paranormal cativity. I liked the concept but feel like it fell flat. Some, seemingly important, plot elements are introduced throughout the 1st hour but then get dropped completely in favor of a pretty meh ending.
Dead Bloom Family inherits a farm but little do they know their soil isn't certified organic. I legit screamed from terror and laughter at the batshit ending. Worth a watch for that alone.
Creature of the Pines Documentary about a documentary about a group of campers that go missing in the woods. Solid enough found footage. The actual 'creature' was kinda disappointing though.
Break A Leg Two actors seeking an audition find themselves alone and locked in a theater. Good performances by the leads. I didn't love it but the last hour is fun.
The Barn Part III Third entry in this series goes the hardest with the gore and practical effects. This series is great fun!
Babybacks A couple treks into the US from Mexico, where they are welcomed in by average retired Texans. Really well done! Tense with occasional moments of camp. You can feel the helplessness of the couple while they navigate the overwhelming creepiness of their hosts.
The Burning of Broken Beak Self-proclaimed Ecological Horror. Kinda bizarre but fun. White people suck
Watching as much as I possibly can in Panic Fest again this year! Tons of full-length films and a basically unlimited number of short films. Going to use this as a thread to share my thoughts (or at least a poster and synopsis) on what I watch over the next week!
Hey. Remember to take care of yourself today. Breathe, stretch, and get something to drink.
Wishing everyone a happy new year! 2025 wasn't amazing for me but had some great moments. Looking forward to the next year as a chance to slowly TF into the best dog I can be!
Some Bandcamp Friday pickups from yesterday: Midnight - Hellish Expectations: Super catchy, sleazy speed metal Kanonenfieber - Die Urkatastrophe: WW1 blackened-death metal. It's so good! Resin Tomb - Cerebral Purgatory: Death Grind. Loud. Canine - In Dog Years You're Dead: Queer dog band Bark!
Ahh it's my bday already?!? The last year went by wayyy too fast but I'm super lucky and thankful for you all! Treat yourselves well and pet a dog for me today! 🎨: @pjchilled.bsky.social
Just informed Benny it's not actually an emergency to want butt scritches in the sunshine so it wasn't a valid reason to wake me up. (He got all the scratches he wanted)
Old Wounds Man films his and his girlfriend's trip to her family's remote farm, while they are unknowingly being filmed themselves. Found footage that never quite goes where you expect. The cast was good, but you could cut the runtime in half and you wouldn't lose much of substance.
Black Theta After surviving a brutal attack, a twink has to deal with trauma, lesbians, and a death cult. Really enjoyed this play on the home-invasion slasher. Doesn't take itself too seriously and was fun all around.
The Book of the Witch A lady steals a book from a witch. The supporting character is the highlight of this one, otherwise it's a bit silly.
House of Ashes After losing her partner and unborn baby, a lady quickly rebounds with a man who wears turtlenecks to bed and gets haunted while she's on house arrest. They used the default Ring doorbell noise like 5 times and made my dog bark. 0/10
Tomorrow I Die Pregnant woman summons family to a remote cabin to casually reveal she thinks she's going to die the following day and to show the same flashback 500 times. Handsome Hungarian men were the only real highlight for me.
The G Imprisoned in assisted-living, a delightfully grouchy lady and her granddaughter have to fight off a "legal guardian" and his goons. Features probably the most enragingly evil antagonists in a very realistic scenario but also really cathartic. Great all around!
Carry the Darkness Teenage misfits get caught up in some X-Files bullshit. Kinda Donny Darko vibes but it really is its own thing. Kept me engaged through the whole thing minus one character's makeup being distractingly not great. Worth a watch though!
Abduct A group of friends have their trip ruined when one of the group gets 'Freaky Friday'd." Great cast and a really well done story with a splash of dark comedy.
For God's Sake Wake Her Up A girl's mom dies so she breaks into a stranger's house and treats her friend like shit while fighting an unrelated demon. Unlikeable characters do unlikable things to drive the plot. Didn't particularly enjoy this one.
Psyche Lady walks around the desert with an Apple II and thinks about death and stuff. I'm just a dog so the existential and symbolic whatevers go right through my empty head. Some of the visuals were beautiful but others were annoying 🤷
Play Dead A kidnapped woman has to reverse Weekend at Bernie's herself through a dinner party to avoid the wrath of a masked killer. Same production company as 1978 and it has a similar dark vibe but this film felt more cohesive.
