🌊 SF Bay is one of the most invaded estuaries. Invasives like Water Hyacinth, Spartina & Wakame choke native life & destroy habitats. Help stop the spread: 1⃣ Clean, drain & dry watercraft 2⃣ Never release aquarium plants 3⃣ Volunteer with local conservation orgs Let's all protect our Bay! 🌿
🌊 In the SF Bay, 250+ invasive species make up 90% of the biomass in some areas! 🦀 Shellfish like the overbite clam hitchhike in ship ballast water and starve native wildlife. Help stop the spread! Remember to Clean, Drain, Dry all boats, kayaks, & fishing gear before changing spots. 🧼🚣♂️
We get to use all kinds of cool gadgets to figure out what's happening in the water beneath the boat! (Photo: Preparing to deploy an EXO2 Sonde CTD that measures salinity, temperature and dissolved oxygen as part of our SeaSounds Project - courtesy of the San Francisco Estuary Institute)
As an organization comprised mostly of working captains and professional mariners, we mourn with the families who lost loved ones in the recent tragedy on San Francisco Bay. We salute the first responders and recreational boaters who assisted in the rescue effort. Stay safe out there!
Sunset over BayQuest's home port is a beautiful reward after a long work day on San Francisco Bay. 🌅⛵️ Every evening reminds us how grateful we are to live in such a magical place teeming with amazing wildlife and rich biodiversity. 🦅🐬 It’s exactly why we do what we do! 🌍💙
🚨SF Bay Alert: Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs) are active. 👀 SPOT IT: Water like spilled paint (green/red), thick scum, or foul odors. 🛑 STAY SAFE:• No swimming or boating in murky water.• Keep dogs away; rinse them immediately if exposed.• Don't eat local fish/shellfish. Report sightings! 🌊🐶
Sharing the underwater world of sound on San Francisco Bay is always a favorite show & tell activity for our crew! 🐋⚓ (Photo: Demonstrating Sofar Ocean's Spotter Sound advanced hydrophone tech on schooner Seaward) #BayQuest #SofarOcean #MarineScience #OceanConservation #OceanTech #SanFranciscoBay
We are incredibly pleased to support our brilliant Acoustics Lead, Firuze Gokce, at her upcoming art exhibition! 🎨🌊 📅 When: Saturday, July 11, 4-6pm 📍 Where: Viva Mēxicana (841 Gravenstein Hwy S, Sebastopol, CA) Don’t miss this inspiring event! 💙 #whaleconservation #sebastopolevents

❤️ Happy 4th of July from BayQuest. 🛥️ As we enjoy the water today, please boat safely and stay alert for local wildlife. Let us also pause to honor the original caretakers of these waters and lands, committing to a new era of listening, learning and deep respect. 🤝✨. #IndigenousLand
Sometime our work in the field is about discovery, other times it's sharing what we've learned with others. Either way, we're always thrilled to be out there doing what we do! Photo: Teaching young sailors about the wildlife of San Francisco Bay #FieldworkFriday #WildlifeEducation #SanFranciscoBay
Thrilled to provide critical field support for a pioneering microplastics study with scientists from SFEI. Tracking these hidden pollutants is a massive step forward in protecting our local marine life. 📺 Check out this segment on ABC7 News Bay Area bit.ly/4y3QHDE #Microplastics #MarineScience

🐋 BayQuest and Aquarium of the Bay are launching a critical mission back to the remote Farallon Islands to rotate a team of scientists, deliver supplies, and conducting vital acoustic research to protect marine life. Help support this critical mission today! bit.ly/4ixBr9O Please repost and share!
Happy Father’s Day from BayQuest! 🌊 Celebrating the Common Murre dad: when his 3-week-old chick leaps off high cliffs, Dad waits in the waves below to guide it to safety. He then spends months teaching it to dive & forage. Hundreds of thousands are nesting right now on the Farallon Islands! 🏝️💙
There is nothing quite like the crisp, salty breeze - workspace essentials - to keep us focused on protecting our coastal ecosystems. Every drop of water tells a story, and we are out here to read it. (Photo: BayQuest and Aquarium of the Bay team conducting acoustic monitoring of offshore whales)
Today, we honor Freedom Day by recognizing that true environmental justice is inseparable from racial justice. The future of SF Bay conservation relies on centering, listening to, and uplifting Black voices fighting to protect our communities, waters and shores. An equitable Bay is a healthy Bay.
Watch for Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs) in the SF Bay from May–Oct. 🌊 Summer heat, calm water, and nutrient runoff supercharge these toxic blooms. Avoid red, brown, or green murky water, shore scum, and fish die-offs. Keep pets leashed and report sightings. #SFBay #EcoAlert #harmfulalgalblooms

A foot-stompin' good time was had by all at the 17th Annual Beaver Festival in downtown Martinez! Thank you to everyone who stopped by to chat, celebrate and support our environment with us. Together, we can keep our wildlife and watersheds healthy and thriving! 🌱 #BayQuest #WildlifeConservation
Nothing like getting out in the sunshine and doing our work in one of the most beautiful places on the globe! 🐋🌉⚓ (Photo: Dropping a sensitive hydrophone in the water near the Golden Gate to listen for whales) #HumpbackWhales #MarineAcoustics #SaveTheWhales #SanFranciscoBay #FieldworkFriday
Fantastic new segment about our SeaSounds Project from Abigail Klinkerman, a finalist in the Hearst National Journalism Awards. Great job sharing the story about this important project and the precious whales we are helping to protect!
Happy #WorldOceanDay! 🌊 Our planet shares one interconnected ocean, and we can help protect it - starting right here on San Francisco Bay. Every local shoreline restoration project, community cleanup, and climate initiative ripples outward to strengthen global marine ecosystems. Let's do it! 💙
Just wrapped up an incredible first expedition with @aquariumofthebay.bsky.social and research scientists from @sfestuaryinstitute.bsky.social The mission targets invisible microplastics that easy infiltrate the food chain and threatens local wildlife and surrounding communities. #microplastics
Plenty of spreadsheets to formulate and reports to generate in conservation work but being out in the field or on the water is always our happy place. Happy Friday Everybody! Photo: Native plant restoration at Middle Harbor Shoreline Park in Oakland, California #BayQuest #FieldworkFriday
So delighted to team up with Aquarium of the Bay to provide crucial fieldwork support for SFEI during a pioneering microplastics sampling session on the San Francisco Bay. Micro-particles are a major threat to our local ecosystem, as they enter the food chain and harm both wildlife and people.
