The Court allowed an appeal from an order of a chambers judge approving the sale of property to a third party purchaser (1/2): 2026 BCCA 328 Purssell v. Purssell

Did you know nearly all appeal hearings at the Court are broadcast live for anyone to see from anywhere in the world? The Court broadcasts its appeals to make them easier to observe for busy reporters and people who can’t come to the courthouse.
In rare situations, the courts limit the open court principle because of risks in the case. In these cases, courtrooms may be closed to the public and media, or court documents may be “sealed,” meaning the public and media are not allowed to see them (1/3).
Did you know a publication ban does not stop members of the public or media from watching court hearings or asking to see court documents? Publication bans stop publication of information about a case, but courtrooms and many court documents remain open and accessible to anyone.
Judges and staff of the Court of Appeal were honoured to meet Chief Willie Blackwater today. Chief Blackwater delivered an impactful presentation about his groundbreaking involvement in the litigation started by former residents of Indian Residential Schools in British Columbia (1/3).
#DidYouKnow The Planning and Access to Justice Committee reviewed the Court’s practice for receiving and responding to requests under Rule 43 of the Court of Appeal Rules for a five-justice division. The Committee determined that the current process should remain in place (1/2).
