I think the solution lies in sewing the loop onto the bag at an angle, like this crude sketch. Also, what do you call a loop when it isn't round?

I wish designers of shoulder bags with adjustable straps figured out how to prevent strap bunch-up.

Rectangular plastic loop connecting strap to body of bag is failing at keeping the straps flat. Instead they are bunching up at the corners of the plastic.
