Chicago, Bike Grid Now!
@bikegridnow
We're demanding a city-wide #bikegridnow with slow & safe bike-prioritized streets across Chicago. bikegridnow.org
Get ready to ROLL because we've partnered with @femnthembikechi.bsky.social and @chicagostars.com to bike bus our way up to Martin Field for their Pride Night vs Bay FC. We've got free beer from Revolution and discounted tickets courtesy of the Stars ($27 + fees). Get yours at bit.ly/BGN-TIX
Thanks for riding. Updates are to come on the progress (or lack of) being made by your alders. Photos by @viktorkoves.com
Join us for a marshal training at Union Park! Come out on Thursday, August 6th and we’ll teach you how to lead a group ride, cork, and de-escalate safely with drivers. 📍 Union Park (NE corner of Ashland/Washington) ⏰ Thursday, August 6th from 6:30-8pm
We are SO tired of being hit on Lincoln Ave so we're jamming. The NW side has Milwaukee, the SW side has Archer, and the West side is getting Ogden. We want the same for Lincoln Ave, which CDOT is not maintaining. 📍 Oz Park (Lincoln/Larrabee/Webster) ⏰ Monday 7/27, 6:30 meet, 6:45 roll
Want to get involved? Want to get re-engaged? Come to our State of the Grid to learn what we got up to this past year, where we're headed, and how you get involved (whether you have an hour to give or ten)! 📍 Beermiscuous (2812 N Lincoln) or online at bit.ly/bike-grid-zoom ⏰ August 5-8:30ish
ACTION ALERT: Please attend the 19th Police District's monthly meeting to learn more about where the RRPEA pilot stands and how you can help. If CPD isn't going to enforce traffic laws to keep us safe, we need citywide programs that let us help keep us safe. 📍4501 N Clarendon ⏰ Weds July 29th 6:30p
One of our marshals had their bike stolen at Leavitt/Cermak today. The bike says "scourer" and has cork handles; it's one of a kind. They have a small reward if you find it or the kindness of your heart will do. Throw a lock on it + get in touch with us somehow and we'll get it back to them.
Public Meeting Alert: The 22nd, 24th, and 28th Wards are taking feedback on upgrades to Ogden Ave between Pulaski and Roosevelt to make it safer. Ogden is difficult to cross with excess lane capacity to dedicate toward bike-forward transport on this key diagonal street July 1st, 5pm, 3622 W Douglas
E-bike and e-cargo bike curious? The 40th Ward's annual bike-a-palooza is this Saturday, June 28th from 5-8p. You can test ride many types of cargo and e-bikes, get a safety check-up, and chat with advocates about achieving safe infrastructure. 📍 Welles Park (2333 W Sunnyside) ⏰ June 28th from 5-8p
One of our marshals is running a lakefront ride from North Ave Beach to the Baha'i Temple in Evanston. Join in on Saturday. Saturday June 27th, 1pm starting at Casaways Beach Club (1603 N DLSD) RSVP: getpie.app/plans/9a8de2...
It doesn't end at a Bike Jam. We have 11th Ward actions planned for the remainder of the month. First up, this Monday, please join us for a rally/protest that will ride to the 11th Ward office. ⏰ Monday June 15th at 5:20 📌 Palmisano Park Fitness Course (860 W 29th)
Thank you so much for coming out to our Jam and eie-in last night. It warms our hearts to see our community together. Please give it up for our BGN marshals, @femnthembikechi.bsky.social, @chicagobikesox.com for keeping us safe and moving. All photos by @viktorkoves.com
Please, join us in community as we celebrate the life of Riley O'Neil and Jam in his honor. 📍 Palmisano Park (Fitness Course) - 41.84177, -87.64905 ⏰ Monday, June 8th, 7p Start, 6:30p Meetup
TW: Death. Non graphic photo. A cyclist has died around 3200 S Halsted Avenue. We've lost track how many SW side death have happened this year. They happen so frequently. Unacceptable that CDOT acquiesces to drivers and alders. We chose tragedy over safety. Photo from @sidestreets.bsky.social
They also lack a 2-3ft buffer zone to prevent dooring. There are often two constrained bike lanes on a one way vehicle street in best practice rather than one constrained lane and one shared lane. A bike grid would not prioritize these in any use case.
We've partnered up with Walls Turned Sideways in Garfield Park for a drop-in bike repair fair with a ride around the neighborhood starting at 3pm. Thanks to @westtownbikes.bsky.social and @workingbikes.bsky.social for providing mechanics. Our friends at @atalliance.bsky.social will be there with us
Join us for a marshal training at Union Park! Come out on Tuesday, June 16th and we’ll teach you how to lead a group ride, cork, and de-escalate safely with drivers. 📍 Union Park (NE corner of Ashland/Washington) ⏰ Tuesday, June 16th, from 6:30-8pm
Let's try this again. Same details, new date. See you at Ping Tom on Saturday the 31st
Justice for Damien ride is today (5/26). 5:30 meet up, 6pm roll out from 55th/Artesian.
While the storm may dissipate, there is a heavy chance of flash flooding and lightning around
The connector was open so we took a ride on it. You can find the 1x speed version of this ride-through on our YouTube youtu.be/pGUOPC23As8?...
Thanks for coming to our Wells-Wentworth Connector 5th birthday party. The connector wished for independence from its parents (CDOT) this year
Why won't CDOT come celebrate one of its best examples of high-quality bike infrastructure?
We tried to invite CDOT. No one from their office would come down to meet us.
Thank you to the 60+ kids and many more parents who came out for the ride. We shall do it again.
