I agree with your original point, Thames Water is effectively bankrupt So when it goes bankrupt, the debt holders seize the assets. So they then hold the assets and the debt. Where does that get them? You say the assets are worth £bns, but what is the net value taking into account the debt?

What really happens in every cycle is that banks lend irresponsibly and come begging to the taxpayer when the bad debts roll in I can guarantee you now that the "collateral" will also be worthless when the crunch comes
