Only one more week and... off we go, for #BioMongol 's 6th #entomological #expedition. And believe it or not, only 6 days ago it was snowing in Ulanbaatar!
BioMongol is partner in peat restoration projects in #Mongolia, assessing insect communities. Important #wetlands, with high #biodiversity. Important also for storing carbon, fighting desertification, protecting livelyhood. Movie: #malaisetrap in action.

4-6th June, visited peat bogs protection and restoration project at Mungunmorit (Töv province, Mongolia), by #WSCC Mongolia. Such projects cannot be done without proper monitoring. BioMongol will take up monitoring of insects and teach local scientists to perform collecting. (1/2)
May 26th presented the activities of BioMongol to an audience of scientists, rangers and students at a biodiversity workshop at Holiday Inn, Ulaanbaatar.
Only very recently was discovered the larvae of the #hoverfly genus #Pelecocera are to be found in subsoil #fungi (Rhizopogon spp.) Now I reared the first specimen from the Netherlands! Just a pity it was born cripple 🤕, no clue why.

The nutrient circle of life. Death is part of life in #Mongolia
This is how it kind of looks like when there is nót that much in it. Each week or 10 days the collecting bottle is exchanged.
Malaise trap, looks like a tent, in which insects fly against an invisible wall, and get caught in a bottle filled with ethanol (a preservative fluid). It collected for about 4 months in a row. It results in a lot of insects to sort and identify!
