Bipedal meatbag. Professor of volcano stuff on the Island of Hawai‘i.
Sitting out episode 52 but still enjoying the view from my bedroom window.
Thanks! His coat was in rough shape when we got him and so this is a huge compliment.
I unintentionally captured a photo in the same spot with Klaus (today, at almost 4) and Lothar 🖤 (back in 2022 at 8.5). Dogs are such a treasure, I wish we got more time with them.
Avis/budget sent me a $1100 bill for damage to a rental car. Anyone know what those window makings mean? The damage estimate is dated 45 hours after I dropped it of plus 4 extra miles... I always get video of the car when I pick it up, but forgot to do the same when dropping it off.
I had a large format version with illustrations from the 1970’s animated movie as a kid. I don’t have it anymore, but I do still have the 50th anniversary copy.
Co-sign, as someone who has had eruptive products land on my home.
Spent time with Maunakea this weekend. Weeded in the ‘ahinahina enclosure (2800 m / 9200 ft) and planted māmane at the base with the PIPES interns.
The en echelon little teeth. The slightly askew eyes. The petite side tongue. The drool tendril wrapped around his muzzle… Klaus is truly a cartoon dog come to life.
This dinosaur was on the side of the road at the start of the Titus Canyon drive, near the CA-NV state line. Ridiculous.
Graduation and award season is upon us. Behold, Klaus is modeling the bounty of lei from my students and colleagues that were bestowed upon me for winning a teaching award (the makers of the lei have demanded their efforts be photographed on this magnificent beast).
White plastic lattice. Looks like tacky shit every time I see it. I ripped it out when I had to redo my porch.
My union rep legitimately suggested “training” AI to learn our writing styles to help craft our tenure dossiers. Absolutely the fuck not. Me: AI is a bullshit slip machine that doesn’t work like that. I would fail my students if they did that. Him: it’s inevitable + we should be early adopters.
USGS forecast models suggest that Kīlauea’s episode 45 will occur sometime between Monday, April 20 and Saturday, April 25. Hoping for something similar to episode 44, but with trade winds and less tephra in town. It has been a long semester! USGS photo by L. Gallant.
More footage of #Kilauea volcano’s Episode 44 fountains (USGS video by L. Gallant). That south vent was ROARING so violently that it rattled the windows at my house several miles away!
My neighbour hood got hit HARD by the recent storms in Hawai‘i. We were lucky and only lost power for 5 days.
We got over 90cm (3 feet) of rain this weekend. That, combined with multi direction winds, has been a PROBLEM.
We’ve got a much lighter deposit this time than during episode 41. The neighborhood near the golf course got hammered, though.
