Yeah, it really crushed her. She literally believed in the US. It's why she enlisted at 17. I didn't want to leave yet, wanted another 10-15 years to build more reserves, but I couldn't bare to make her stay, just so I could make money for longer. Her health was more important. It was the right move
I know. My wife, who served, whose family served, was told to go back to Africa not long after the election around the area we lived in. She was also confronted in a liquor store and our favorite grocery store. About broke her heart. We decided we needed to end out toxic relationship with the US.
It's wild. I am 52. 5 years ago this is not even a thought or an idea. Now, it's so damn awesome to feel excited about life again instead of feeling like crap about what is going on around me. Trying to visit as many countries as possible. Next month the Netherlands!

Wake up around 9, 9:30. Walk into the kitchen to this view. Drink an espresso with wife. Talk about what we plan on doing. Take Portuguese lesson for an hour. Walk the dog. Start work around 2 pm. Which means sitting in the office more on my laptop, with the shades open. Not bad in Portugal.
Well, probably not more than me, it literally amazes me. He keeps her spirit alive and "growing" all the time. Life goals.
Damn right. Keep it going. My stepdad keeps my mom's gardening going and that man was a mechanic his entire life, but when we lost her, he grew a green thumb! Now he is 82. And he does a hell of a job!
Ummm wtf? We moved to Portugal in October. No way I'm leaving my main man KeKoa behind! He turned 6 right after we got here.

We brought the dog! He seems to love it here! My wife is ex-army and has lived abroad before so she spearheaded where we were going and did a lot of research on the area. It took some time, about 10 months to finally get everything here that we wanted.
Yes. After the election, the wife and I started working on it. It's very different and we are working on Portuguese. But everyone is very accepting here. It was tough to pull off for sure, but so far, so good. Weather is great and the food is amazing. Plus, history is all around us.
Hilarious. We are living in Portugal now. Barcelos to be exact. They have a soccer and roller hockey team that are both pretty good. They roller hockey teams crushes pink. This whole color/gender thing is very American.
I love golf. I'm just not good at it. But I still play. Enjoying bogey golf isn't a sin.

So far, Portugal has been one of the coolest places I've been to. Now we live here. So wild! Lots of art everywhere!

We considered that also, but we were able to get so much more space and in a really nice walkable area near Barcelos, in Barcelinhos. Beautiful here and everyone has been so welcoming. Real change of pace from the US. A nice, slow pace along with good food!
I'm not sure actually democracy makes a come back in the US. That's one of the reasons the wife and I moved to Portugal.
Tough Christmas yesterday as the wife and I spent our first Christmas abroad. Which sounds really cool cause we were not stuck in America with all the fascists and racists, but is tough as hell cause our kids and family have all stayed there. Everyone has a choice to make.
