CHARLESTON — A security guard accidentally fired his handgun within the Charleston County courthouse complex on Aug. 5, officials said.

The firearm went off around 10 a.m., inside the county offices portion of the building at the entrance adjacent to Meeting Street.

A Walden Security officer contracted by the county to provide protection within the building accidentally fired the gun near a security entry point, according to county spokesperson Chloe Field.

The entrance provides access to the Charleston County Auditor office at 101 Meeting St.

The officer had removed his duty-issued handgun from his hip holster and was showing a coworker how to disassemble it when the weapon fired. A bullet struck a standing metal detector at the security checkpoint, Field told The Post and Courier.

The officer reportedly cut his finger during the incident. No one else was injured.

The Associated Press page for the article about the Justice Department dropping the criminal case against the Olympian charged with damaging the reflecting pool.

The Justice Department moved Friday to dismiss a criminal case charging a former Olympian with deliberately damaging the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.

Government lawyers said in a 20-page court filing the information provided since the indictment of David Hearn shows that the damage was the result of a flawed installation by the contractor as well as the rush to complete the project prior to events associated with the America 250 celebration in the week surrounding Independence Day, 2026.

I've been playing around with the 527 explorer, great tool! I'm curious, I downloaded the IRS data myself and have been working through creating my own pipeline. I noticed some schedule a ids are missing from the explorer. Is this intentional? Here's an example, schedule A ID: 36418064

For a browser, I completely understand making this change. but the point about AI assisted pull requests goes way beyond just browsers. This is such a common refrain in OSS these days ladybird.org/posts/changi...

AI tools have changed the economics of this very quickly. We use them ourselves every day, but a pull request no longer tells us as much as it used to about the person submitting it. A substantial patch used to imply substantial effort, and that effort was a reasonable proxy for good faith. That assumption no longer holds.

I don't know what a "strict non-ai policy" would mean, but ignoring AI powered tooling in modern software security I would claim would ignore the state of the art tools. Unwise.
