Director of Digital Preservation at The Strong National Museum of Play. Video games. "They are going for the Physical Challenge!"
Footage of the unreleased Beavis and Butthead game is up next at The Strong!
A super early version of the Colosseum from Serious Sam Next Encounter, running on the PC's Serious Editor. This is from January 25, 2002, while the game wouldn't release on GameCube until April 2004.
Found the 1st playable build of @mrsambarlow.bsky.social's favorite game, Crusty Demons. I love to see these beyond-early builds, especially with other documentation to go with it.
Lodgenet! Getting somewhere now. This is running off the server directly, not a data backup. I should have full access now.
A tech demo for WITCH on DS, using the assets of a Harry Potter tech demo.
Among today's disks, The Abyss, based on James Cameron's movie. Source code is out there for it, but Im not sure how this version differs.
They just don't make big box games like they use to. Or in this case, and even bigger box used for marketing. That Fallout 2 is normal size
A short clip of Descent on Saturn. Obviously, the framerate is rough, but that is what game development can look like, especially for what was essentially one person (as far as I can tell) porting it to something like the Saturn. The music was noted as being wrong in a document I found, not my fault
A presentation schedule for Save the Games is now available from the list of presenters and abstracts! I am working on getting the website updated, but check it out, and get your tickets now! www.museumofplay.org/save-the-gam...
Descent running on a real Saturn. Framerate is worse than an emulator, which was to be expected, but it does work!
Well, at least this confirms that the Saturn version of Descent was a working thing.
Poking around with some Volition files while watching AEW, and found something I had never heard of before: Descent 2 Arena! A multiplayer arcade game designed for 8 players! This is using the RReady Rendition Verite wrapper, so it has some issues, but the fact that this is a thing at all is wild!
