height back into sun & tenacity of harebells, waterlilies folded to lamp for the night. a coot forages where dusk has just fallen, careful of landing shadow. 2/2
& these strong, latesummer winds that thistle has been creeping towards (orbs spin off endlessly), while birch begins divestment (a dunnock polices your progress), 1/2
& sun bores through tangle towards set (time of 1st raspberries), the burn gone dry & clouds performing some kind of spell that belittles the moon
the long dry. barley's shush undercut with crackle. a bleached daymoon wavers.
@leopardsbane.bsky.social - faint moon between standing stones, 21.09
two views of the new moon - 16% - afterglow, descending afloat & drifting
reflections painterly. a heron spotlit, paused on 1 leg. high point of grasses & heatwave but crowsfoot & foam remind you of icegather you have seen here deepest of winters
& a slant & eerie gloam breathe in heat & dust distance filtered through haze swallows chitter & zeep at home in a world of sticky tangle grasshopper warbler casts & reels an insect's song invisible deep in plantation & close at hand
cormorants on unscheduled flybys below & oystercatchers on the tideline. way back a family of greylags grounded in pasture, alert. 2/2 #birds
up by swallowswooped barley, shallow sea high as the hill. cliffs' deep roots & harebells fringing their crown. 1/2
digital-analogue to full analogue: progressive regression, delivered at dusk @hookland.bsky.social
a broad bodied chaser (you think) basking half-spent on the deck. 2/2
wetlands & boglands. a sky that might have stammered thunder but did not. ubiquitous corvidae. small skipper. tuneless yelling of a reed bunting 1/2
glossy ibis (Plegadis falcinellus), a pair mysteriously in SW Scotland, a lifer
ringlet butterflies have vague shadows; water crowfoot signals a shallow current you walk against
out once the sun is lower than trees, it is wandering in such low & thirsty barley as is in it; a careworn blackbird dinks & postures at you & 1/2
& sadly 1 of the barn owl young has lost themselves to misadventure
nothing bog-dull in the peatlands, a place still in glacial recoil - gouged out by solid water & that tension to retain scouted by pondskaters
harebells have pitched their careful tents & sun begins a falling blaze just a little earlier than you are used to. 2/2
& the warm wind of a dry & humid gloom. violet ground beetle roots around tractortreads & a battered red admiral rests in tatters. 1/2
walk out below a lime heaving with pollinators, a full-bodied roar 2/2
all afternoon the darkening & silvering & glower (lamps of bindweed in the lanes), damselflies sparking over pollenthickened water & ragged robin in dense, dank tangle - 1/2
& a linnet on the deerfence, start of the time of rosebay - ripening of rasperries some way off
& moonrise behind thin veil, which is how summer lands with you - everthing at one remove
& the lingering sunset paying attention to sky & land, taking time with finer details pertaining to movement of water
& 1 July & the rain in: it is froglet migration day, it seems, & you watch your step as tiny leaping forms move in caravans (slower fellow travellers [white lipped snail?] are also abroad), & a hare keeps watch but does not bolt
& you wait for the moon but the sky is deceptive - heavy canopy & flex of of a leibherr
