Y'all ... TWO top papers at @natcom.org's #NCA26 in New Orleans this November! I'm so excited for these teams.
Tinkered a bit and got MAME working on my older Raspberry Pi. Who recognizes this one?
We're doing it again! If you're in the Syracuse area, we're looking for play-testers for an in-development Atari game. Y"all -- this is a fun one. =) Details: bit.ly/SyracuseXAtari
Now if you'll excuse me? A classic "I'm in my forties and I'll be damned if I'm going out on Friday" night. 🤣🍻🧡
Fun weekend harvesting some old PC parts to get much-needed hard drive backups for our research team. I laugh in the face of an austerity budget. ;p (Also, it's fun. Very fun).
Some time back I bought an Atari 2600 physical ROm hack at an antique shop, on a whim. Finally set aside some time to clean and recondition it and ... It's working! A few pics, incoming.
Our team's latest work at @jmp-hogrefe.bsky.social was a very fun one, because we found that VR gaming isn't necessarily any more demanding that "flat" gaming. It's a finding we're come across several times now, and it might speak to VR boundary conditions. Give a read? doi.org/10.1027/1864...
To folks that think that profs all sailed through school, I submit to you my transfer credits for first-year public speaking (Fall '99). I was 17 when I started college and ... well, a lot of my early studies were of city nightlife. Probably a good ethnography, but distracting. ;p It got better.
this thing. Not this one but ... this type. I saw one and was like YUUUUUUUUUUUP. Durn car would have cost less than the engine in the Bug. =/
The Beetle. This one gets it's work at Upstate Imports (Erie Blvd, SYR), where Tony and Rich and the guys there are nothing short of top-notch. Every time they take "Bert Handsome" in, they take the time to walk me through the mechanics and teach me a bit about the systems they've tweaked and fixed.
The Spitfire. This one has had some major renovation work starting with Hard Body Customs back in Lubbock for the initial coach and basic mechanics; currently getting a *major* overhaul with ST Foreign Auto Service on Brighton Ave (SYR). Older pic, below.
"Back to school. Back to school. To show them all that I am not a fool!" See y'all in the Fall, as I start the very first steps toward the Automotive Technology Certificate. 🗽😁🧡🏎️
Back in STL for the holiday, and had to go visit Phil. 🧡🗽🍻
Watching Space Truckers and I'd completely forgotten about Charles Dance. Next stop? Game of Thrones. 😂😂😂
Here's the side view, with a few SYR/315 shout-outs. ;p
Summer days? Oh just getting the #nhixlab logo on my Gran Turismo 7 car. =)
Had to go to my happy place today - chorin'! Happy Father's Day to those who celebrate. =)
Later today, I'll start my third year teaching a summer course on video game theory and design for "Narrativas para Videojuegos" at Universidad Panamericana - Guadalajara. It's a weeklong course where students learn how to design a "demand signature" so that their games will have maximum impact.
A very fun and meaningful collaboration with Lance Holbert and Nathan Walter on where and how we can use p-curve analyses in communication scholarship. Give a peek? www.degruyterbrill.com/document/doi...
A quick hello from our @gpccomm.bsky.social Editorial Board, from those attending @icahdq.bsky.social #ica76 to those all over. *waves* 👋
I feel it as a metaphor in here, but I'm too hungry to figure it out.
A sneak peek and overview of what we've been up to at @gpccomm.bsky.social . =) We'll have a version of this on display at #ICA26 Cape Town!
At home with Sadie all weekend, so I'm working on the soon-to-be-published media psychology textbook. Fun table from Chapter 2: Research Methods - technical and social changes in the @apajournals.bsky.social styleguide from the pre-guide 1929 bulletin to the most recent. Neat!
Some defense for anybody who keeps those jars of screws lying around.
Here's how my day started. 😬😬 (Also a great reminder to vacuum under that bed)
