My guess is they got a good deal on the land, but it does look like a nice area from photos and satellite imagery, which is all I have at this point. The land has to be rezoned from General Commercial to a floating zone, once that's done this should be straightforward.

Got to tour the Louisville Slugger factory this week. They have all their old templates from when they hand-lathed the bats stored in a climate-controlled vault. This is me with the W176, which Ted Williams used in 1953.

For those curious about the exact geography, it's rather far out from the heart of LA, but there is transit nearby and parking is abundant. The Fairplex is also one of the more important venues for the National Hot Rod Association, with the NHRA Museum on site and its HQ in nearby San Dimas.

To reinforce what I said re: ICC being terrible at media relations, this is the squad on the ICC's website for the USA's ODI today against Nepal. Drysdale, Gous, van Schalkwyk, and Yasir Mohammad did not make the trip. Nepal's squad for the same match has 20 players on it. Pathetic and embarrassing.

Cricket is REAL in Appalachia! The Cricket Club at ETSU played the first ever competitive games in school history yesterday, a pair of T10s at Virginia Tech. We lost both, but a team that came together in a month held its own against a very good program. We lit a fire in some of these guys!

Cricket West Indies published its audited financial statements for FY 2025 yesterday. It's a bloodbath: a $28m loss with an expected $26m loss for FY 2026 before bouncing back positive in FY 2027. All the cash reserves from the T20 World Cup are gone.

Major League Cricket released its 2026 schedule today. The playoffs move to Oakland this year, and there are 13 day/night doubleheaders. Los Angeles, which just announced a home ground in Pomona, will play just 3 of the team's 5 scheduled "home" games there.

The complete 2026 schedule for Major League Cricket, beginning June 18 with the Texas Super Kings and Seattle Orcas at Grand Prairie Stadium and ending with the Grand Final at Oakland Coliseum on July 18.

Cricket is my joy. It's also vulnerable to co-opting by nationalists in South Asia, and boards are slow to shrug off old systems and views. They want to convince the public that it's their way or the highway, and all of this is inevitable. Joy disrupts that framing and erodes their power.

"Joy is not a coping mechanism, though; it’s the thing that keeps us from acquiescing to people who look at Warhammer 40k’s Imperium of Man as aspirational. It galvanizes us by underscoring that something better is possible and gives us hope that our demands for our sports and our society to do better will actually bear fruit, even if it takes longer than we want it to. To know joy is to know resilience in the face of dystopia and understand that the people seeking to corrupt the game to their ends or the systems that fail those they claim to nurture will never be celebrated. They will not win; even if they are party to victory, they will always be upstaged by those in the arena doing the extraordinary, and they will always be mad about it.

Perhaps that is the greatest, most enduring joy of all."
