This was fun to read during the World Cup. Very little Rincewind though. Finished it up on this year’s Maine trip, reading it by the water. Now, I’ll need to find which Discworld path to read next based on the chart @erinampersand.bsky.social sent my way last year. Leaning with Death or The Watch.

This feels right. I work in a field that is very open to AI but I haven’t seen much that actually exited me. @edzitron.com remains the smartest and most important person covering AI.

Tried making spring rolls for the first time. They came out… messy but yummy. Also, I learned the hard way you’re not supposed to put them on wood… Homemade peanut sauce was a big hit. Will try again another time. Excellent use for leftover veggies.

Despite the page size and different format than usual, I really enjoyed The Last Hero. The Silver Horde is such a fun group so an entire illustrated book focusing on them was fun to read.

My record player has been broken for a couple of years but my wife surprised me with a brand new one for Father’s Day. I forgot how nice it is to just put a record on while doing some reading in the evening.

Upon further investigation, it looks like it regularly flies between Chicago and Tokyo, with a stop in Anchorage.

Just saw this 747 flying towards O’Hare. It was noticeable that it didn’t appear to have any markings on it. Tracking app says it was Atlas Air GTI7134, a charter company plane. I feel like a 747 is too big for an ICE flight. I hope.

With prices as high as they are, I was pleasantly surprised to find out my grocery store had a Buy One Get One Free sale on pork shoulder. Picked up almost 20lbs for under $30. The smoker is going to get some work this week…

I haven’t read a lot of spy novels but I get why this is considered a classic. Gritty, intrigue, twists, and with characters that draw you in.

I don’t know much about gardening but our veggie garden is growing great this year. Which is helpful because of how expensive everything is now…

The smoker has been on the fritz so I tried grilling wings tonight. They came out great! If you have a grill, you can make great wings.

At the neighborhood Memorial Day parade, I saw a Buick Skylark convertible but was disappointed that it was bright red instead of metallic mint green. Then, just two cars later, I was satisfied.

My neighbor does a lot of projects in his yard so I had to double check that there wasn’t equipment on the other side before I helped the kid over. (2/2)

Some kids were hopping fences in the neighborhood and one got stuck in my yard. Obviously I had to go out and help because that just seems like plain old fun. (1/2)

I finished the Mistborn trilogy and I think the final book makes up for some of the deficiencies of the second book. Overall, I very much enjoyed this world and will miss it as I explore other fiction books.

I spent a lot of time by a pool on my vacation last week and knocked off the Mistborn sequel, The Well of Ascension. It’s an enjoyable read and I’m currently working on the third book of the trilogy.

I finished Mistborn by @brandonsanderson.com last week and really enjoyed it. The magic system is unique and interesting with enough mystery to keep you in suspense. The world building and characters are engaging, and despite being part of a trilogy the story can stand on itself.

I was cleaning the kitchen today and noticed we needed new towels. Since we will soon be spending a lot of time with my MAGA family, I decided to get some towels from our vacation in Canada several years back.

This might be the most “Chicago” book I’ve ever read. It reads more like a dramatic novel than the history of a brand. I could picture many of the bars and locales as it traced Malört’s history. Hard to put down, sometimes hard to believe (incredible how Malört survived this long),a great read.

I’ve been in training all week in the suburbs and drove by a restaurant with either the best or the worst ever signage.

I get that it’s hard to pick one player when a defense dominates but the current MVP odds show how broken the award is
