I asked Gemini why it and other AI tools are being pushed on us, and it gave me a pretty good answer.

It's becoming clear that AI tools like Gemini really don't work very well or live up to their promises. They make mistakes and give wrong answers, they cause the humans who rely on it to lose their expertise, they reinforce and amplify users' delusions, and they cause tremendous problems for the environment. And the public is now becoming aware of these problems, and a backlash is now building against AI.
Given all this, why are Google and the rest of the tech industry forcing us all to use these tools, when they don't work and we don't want them?
The push to integrate AI across the tech industry—despite valid concerns regarding accuracy, environmental impact, and human reliance—is driven less by immediate consumer demand and more by intense corporate competition, long-term infrastructure strategy, and the mechanics of modern financial markets.
For major technology companies, the "AI race" is viewed as a foundational platform shift comparable to the rise of the internet or the smartphone.
Why the Industry is Aggressively Pursuing AI
Companies are prioritizing AI adoption for several strategic and economic reasons:
* Fear of Being Left Behind: Executives operate under the belief that if they do not lead in AI development, they risk losing dominance in the digital ecosystem for the next decade. For large firms, "wasting" billions on early development is considered a manageable temporary cost, whereas missing the transition is viewed as a terminal business risk.
* The "Infrastructure Bet": Tech giants are not just building chatbots; they are building the massive computational "compute" infrastructure (data centers, specialized chips, and energy grids) that they believe will underpin all future software. Investors are funding this physical build-out now, betting that it will eventually spawn essential applications, much like early fiber-optic investment made modern streaming and cloud services possible.

I am ALWAYS nice to city pigeons. They're the descendents of domesticated pigeons from the 19th and early 20th centuries--pets, messengers, etc. They were set free, but couldn't survive in the wild anymore. So they stick around us and live off our garbage because we're all they know. We owe them.
