Home to the illustrious Hugo Awards, the annual literary awards for best speculative fiction works and achievements, Worldcon celebrates and showcases excellence in science fiction, fantasy and genre through a weekend of events, discussion, and activities.
The World Science Fiction Convention (Worldcon) is the largest global event for the World Science Fiction Society, with almost 90 years of history.
Brisbane is bidding to host WorldCon in 2028! What's WorldCon we hear you ask?
Have you read Justine Larbalastier's work? @larbalestier.bsky.social is an award-winning fiction writer and critic. Originally from Sydney, she particularly came to attention with the 2003 _Battle of the Sexes in Science Fiction_, which was a Hugo nominee in 2003. ...
Did you know that Australia has multiple time zones and that *not all of them use Daylight Savings Time*? This means that at some times of the year we have five time zones, and at other times, three. During Worldcon, we'll only have three.
The #BrisabaneIn2028 #MeanjinIn2028 table at @laworldcon.bsky.social needs helpers. If you are interested DM with your details and someone will get back to you.
Meet Aimee Lindorff I'm currently based in Sydney, but I've only recently left Brisbane. I've lived in a lot of places, but Brisbane is my home. While I'll be working in event production when the time comes, til then I'm helping out with the Brisbane insights and social media.
By pure coincidence team member @effjayem.bsky.social was at the @britishlibrary.bsky.social yesterday and checked out the Fairytale exhibition.
We are very sad to hear of the death of Robin Johnson, in Ballarat on 6th July. Robin Johnson was the fan who led the team that bid for and hosted Aussiecon, Australia's first World Science Fiction Convention, in 1975. fancyclopedia.org/wiki/Robin_J...

We are heartbroken to hear of the passing of multiple award-winning New Zealand / Australian author, cartographer, and photographer Russell Kirkpatrick, who served as Guest of Honour and MC at many conventions. Our condolences to his family and friends on their loss. #AustralianSFF #OceaniaSFF

#3DPrinters! We’ve tried a couple of different filaments (Panchroma translucent rainbow gradient & tricolor silk) to get rainbow koalas, but results are mixed. Do any of you have a better filament recommendation to get a true rainbow gradient on #TinyKoalas? Drop your suggestions in the comments.

@effjayem.bsky.social has been perambulating #Brisbane today, looking at what it's like to be a tourist here: light rail from airport to conference centre, parks, great museums, a city beach, children's playgrounds, fantastic shopping, waterfront eating, 50c on public transport including water taxi.
Effjayem is walking through Brisbane today. It's a gorgeous city. Yes, skyscrapers, but also cooling city parks, riverside cafes, glorious bridges (I like bridge architecture) and routes suitable for pedestrians and wheels. It's a palimpsest of old and new. #BrisbaneIn2028 #MeanjinIn2028
Brisbane *glitters*. @effjayem.bsky.social on tour. #BrisbaneIn2028 #MeanjinIn2028
This week #GUFF delegate @effjayem.bsky.social is in Brisbane, testing out the tourism. This is the view from Kangaroo point.
