bumbleborn - Wunder is OUT NOW!
@bumbleborn

28 potions are now all working, little consumables add a lot to these kinds of games!
also holy hell, finding out I can do this is such a massive boon! I can go on a little company purge for any of them that have made a big splash saying stuff like "we're AI-First", etc. very cool feature
Adding potions to Wunder and I just hit 20! I reckon I'm gonna try to get 28 in for the big update
Wunder is in this event, just got the demo back up a few days ago! Still working on next update and whilst it's taking a lot longer, there's some really fun new Coins & Talismans coming in v0.4 Like Odysseusssss!
finally got around to making a studio page for playdate, it's very cute and I love that they added this
we're 55.6% of the way through the year but I've only managed 36.92% of my goals this year 😭 Hopefully I can jump up in the next months or 2
Everyone should go play The Mermaid Mask 🧜🎭 It's wonderful and everything games should be! If I ever lose my drive to make games a bit, I play a game from @sfbtom.bsky.social and @sfbdim.bsky.social, it always rejuvenates me!
trying to get back into making youtube videos but miso wants the video to be about her also the games industry is mega cooked and I'm trying very hard to not think about it 😭
Anyway that's all from me! I'm making a concerted effort to use less social media atm as the AI stuff that keeps popping off is depressing me a huge amount. I'm gonna try to only post when I have something creative to share... Like these cool little potions that are coming soon™️ to Wunder!
So far quite a few players have played through everything in the game so I know roughly that the game takes around 20 - 30 hours to 100% in it's current state. I think this means 1.0 will have around 100 hours of gameplay for the sickos obsessed with collecting everything, that's pretty cool to me!
So while sales have slowed down quite a bit (even whilst on discount), this is expected as I've made no real marketing attempt. Wishlists have climbed significantly since launch (was around 400) so I reckon if I keep plugging away and working on updates we'll be okay!
Wunder stats! Some cool stuff and not so cool stuff has happened 😅 Sales are low but a lot of people like the game! Sales minus refunds are at 274, unless I get lucky in the next sale I think the projected goal of between 200 - 400 sales a month for year 1 might be missed. #indiedev
That episode ends with Tim saying: "You're trying to get people to contribute their whole selves to the project... ... to make a group of people work well together, bring the best ideas forth and make good stuff together." I think AI is a great way to not "Make good stuff together."
It's not just a "style" and it's not just "ideas", what we're searching for as artists is a format of expression that feels honest. A compelling way to tell stories that we want to tell.
Even when an artist is following a previously established direction, you can see their identity and attention to detail bleed through.
Part of the solution is bringing on @leviryken.bsky.social who jokingly says "I'll get out my tracing paper" in reference to Peter Chan's concept art. This is preceded by him talking about watching Ghibli films every day at a local cinema to get inspired.
That's hard if you want to ship a game in a timely fashion. The process makes Nathan question what "Bagel Style" even is. But with the advent of replacing human labour with AI maybe we can do it! That's a joke of course, it's fundamentally not possible.
It's #PitchYaGame! Wunder: The Double-Sided Deckbuilder is all about flipping coins in battles of chance to escape Hades! Every coin does something unique when it lands Heads or Tails, and can be upgraded to cause absolute chaos! 💀 Check it out on Steam 💀 store.steampowered.com/app/3895480/...
🧪 potions looking cool 🧪 Still a lot left to do, but I've missed doing tech art!
I ranted about Gen-AI again 😅 About how it prevents you from growing into a master.
This is a view that I don't think gets enough pushback, in instances like this people are not using generative AI, they are having it forced upon them. It will take a bit of time for folks to switch to tools that don't have llm bs in them
Nothing that can't be attributed to the actual event, atm we get roughly 20 - 30 wishlists a day, and I think we got about 60 since the event started
very basic thing to be proud of, I finally feel like I'm developing properly (branches for big and small changes), only got used to it slightly when bug fixing for Scroll after release
I'm a week into the release of my second game and I didn't expect it to do so well! wishlists have more than doubled since launch and general feedback is that it's a worthy entry in the genre. We'll of course know more by the end of month 1 or 2, but I'm quietly hopeful word of mouth has started.
I finished the last of the 3 peaks finally by climbing ben nevis!!
just pushed my first set of balancing & bug fixes, it feels like I'm really working on it now!! Feels like the good old days of getting Echo out the door... games take too long to make!
ngl I was terrified we would be doing a lot worse when I looked at the conventional wisdom of the industry, but thanks to the amount of friends who have shown it to friends it's (very slightly) starting to grow beyond what was expected maybe we'll be okay 😅
Hell ye, we're positive!! and we passed 100 copies sold this morning!
it's early days on wunder but people are already sending me footage of them going infinite 😭 I did not consider infinity and it somehow loops your score around to 0... today I am adding infinity to the game! #gamedev
