What I love about hotel-shopping is seeing that they can just put whatever they want in the listings. This ryokan just has a photo of ninjas as a "point of interest". (Admittedly it is indeed a point of interest for me, so maybe it's correct to list it.)

What is a movie that No One in the World could ever make You Hate? For Me: PG: Psycho Goreman (2020) But I'm sure I have at least 50 movies I'd defend to my grave.
I inexplicably hit the 4000 reviews milestone on Letterboxd and I really can't believe I've written that much about movies (ever since 2019 when I started doing it).
In memory of Sam Neill, my absolute favorite Jurassic Park edit. I laugh every single time.
I bet you aren't renting movies with Ghoulies playing at the front desk like I am this afternoon.
Thinking back to this and my own experiences over the past year, it's super cool how his first appearance was a stage show and now 60 years later, the stage shows continue with much bombast. 💥
Occasionally there'll be a Showa-era Kamen Rider villain that elevates beyond silly and is actually super cool, such as with our shark villain here. I like this guy!
It's #UltramanDay! The 60th anniversary of the series, when the titular hero was first shown on-stage during a televised event on July 10, 1966. No better time for me to give that special a re-watch since it's readily available on Tubi.

A lot of talk about physical media lately, of which I'm a staunch supporter. It's just unfortunate when folks take advantage when discs go out of print. Lot of discourse re: Super Sentai's license recently but also here's what I paid for Ultraman X about 5 years ago and what it goes for now. 😭
They refer to him as "Gasu Ningen", literally "Gas Man" in the subtitles, so all I'm doing while watching is making this reference, lmao.
Did some yard work this afternoon, now sitting back and watching the original gas man. 1960s tokusatsu directed by Ishiro Honda and effects by Eiji Tsuburaya. ✨
Showa-era tokusatsu villains will always be the best of the bunch and nothing will convince me otherwise.
No spoilers for the show, but those are some super cool closing credits. I love them making use of the miniatures instead of showing a montage of scenes from the episode. 😎💪
That adaptation of The Human Vapor is finally streaming. I need to give the 1960 movie a watch this weekend.

Tonight's movie: Jigoku 1999 (aka Japanese Hell). A very low budget but wonderfully handcrafted horror. A bit saggy in the middle but worth it to watch a bunch of oni chop up a character based upon a real serial killer.
What I love about watching Showa-era Kamen Rider is that I'm not even remotely phased by the inherent silliness of it any more. This is completely normal to me.
