I started a new build this afternoon. I only want cafes and pubs for my book nooks. I might also add a bookstore for the Droste effect.

The early stages of assembling the interior of a corner tavern for my bookshelf. All the little furniture is dark brown and there are copious wooden “bottles” filling the shelves.

I experimented with the acorn again. This is three shades of blue ink with purple and black ink highlights.

An exploration of blue inks with purple ink and black pen outlines. It’s giving googly eyed, deep ocean life vibes. The mixed media paper is bordered by a swirly washi tape that reminds me of the trans flag.

Yesterday I painted with an acorn and it made this cute pattern.

When I went to lunch with friends today, we saw the nearby apartments were having some turnover and lots of stuff was out for free. So I adopted these two plants. One is supposedly an orchid but I don’t know what the other is. Let’s see if I can keep them alive.

Beside a sliding glass door leading to a deck, two potted plants are sitting on a welcome mat. They have seen better days. The nearer plant is labeled Dancing Ladies, an orchid, but it’s only foliage now.

On a cheerier note, today’s mail was a book bonanza. Two from an auction, and three for a geography reading challenge on StoryGraph.

This flag used to fall down if you so much as looked at it wrong, but today with bursts of 80 mph winds, it’s rock solid. Happy Pride!

This morning I took my coffee and a book out to read on the back deck and I found someone else already enjoying our backyard. We sat in companionable silence for about half an hour.

A very chill deer curled up in a corner of my backyard with yellowed rhubarb blossoms towering over it. The foreground looks overgrown because we had a large branch fall and the power company sawed it up.

A couple of years ago, I created a wind-catcher/chime during a manic phase. It’s time to swap out the colorful fabric I used then, but re-creating the chime has been more difficult than I expected. Manic Me seems to be a better engineer.

At the Figge art museum yesterday, I got to see some old friends, like the reasonably freaked out ray and Dulle Griet charging into Hell.

Latest puzzle is Moon Garden by Clara McAllister from eeboo. Sorry about all the glare. This was challenging because of all the brush strokes and because the wrong pieces would sometimes fit together and things wouldn’t match up for a while. But I loved the broody blues and maximalism.

Yesterday was a good mail day. The Fall 2025 issue of Huizache plus a folio of Central American poetry, as well as hand stitched books from @the-ethelzine.bsky.social: “Origin Stories, Poetry” by Sarah Teresa Cook and “And We Are Far From Shore” by @martin65.bsky.social.

The four books described in the post arrayed on my couch. Huizache has a picture of plants loaded into the back of a moving truck. The Huizache folio is black with obscured white text. In the center is a bright red book with a collaged, hand stitched floral cover. Just astonished by my first Christmas gift: @josejimenez.bsky.social found a replacement for my favorite coffee mug, which I broke months ago.

The moment I saw the skeletal Highland cow at the store, I knew I must claim the bizarre bovine for my lawn. Now battle ensues.

Last night I completed this puzzle based on Kim Smith’s rendition of the Norman Lykes house designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. I picked it up in the gift shop when we visited Taliesin a couple of weeks ago. I love that it looks like an abandoned spaceship.

Day 28–I can’t believe the month is almost over! Today’s book is My Heresies by Alina Stefanescu. I almost didn’t buy this book because the cover squicks me out.
