Mid-50s sad sack and also-ran. Cartoonist.
Raw scans of today’s WIP. Just two panels completed, but that’s double my output from yesterday. I don’t expect to complete four panels tomorrow, my progression is not geometric. As I approach the terminus of the nigh-interminable story I find I’m dragging my feet, but I’ll get there eventually.
New update at Substack, with plenty of devil-girl nudity, but not the fun kind. Follow link for commentary: open.substack.com/pub/calebcol... #cartoonist #comic #comics #comicbook #comicbooks #webcomic #webcomics
Raw scans of today’s WIP. I got the full page lettered, but then I had to cut my losses and draw just a single panel. Larry is telling the truth here. It really isn’t like that, but it sure doesn’t look good.
Raw scans of today’s WIP. Bottom third inked, completing the current page. Sadly, the title A Series of Ever Increasingly Bad Decisions was already used by Goeff Vasile, so I had to go with something a bit more ambiguous.
Raw scans of today’s WIP. Inks on the top 1/3 of the current page. ‘How come she didn’t like her’ is some next level dialog, just don’t worry about the pronoun attribution. Also, she wasn’t pretty crazy by the end of it, she was just the only one in town willing to call a werewolf a werewolf.
Raw scans of today’s WIP. Finished pencils on the whole page with inks on the middle 1/3. I spent most of today giggling about ‘Orange you glad I didn’t say banana’ because I used the phrase ‘aren’t you’ and I am very mature and sophisticated in my creative process. Off to mow the lawn!
Raw scans of today’s WIP. Rough pencils with the lettering completed. Lettering is time consuming enough that I never get past the roughs on the same day. I’d make some wry comment about Larry learning that buying beer for underage girls is a bad idea, but he was supposed to know that already.
Raw scans of today’s WIP. The remaining two panels on the last page of the chapter. On the one hand, the rear engines on old Volkswagens are confusing to the uninitiated; on the other, I consider their moving of the engine to the front to be absolute sacrilege.
Raw scans of today’s WIP. Just the three panels inked. I did some finishes on that 2h panel, but covered those with ink before scanning, so what you see is what you get. It really might have been an accident, but Sam’s of the ‘be serious, will you’ school of thought.
New update at Substack, in which Faye walks through the halls of memory (it’s very literary you guys). Follow link for commentary: open.substack.com/pub/calebcol... #cartoonist #comic #comics #comicbook #comicbooks #webcomic #webcomics
Raw scans of today’s WIP. The final page of the chapter in various states of completion,. Antihero gets bandied about a lot, but this story doesn’t contain enough heroism to make ‘antihero’ a viable characterization, so I’m aiming for ‘just shitty’.
Raw scans of today’s WIP. Inks on yesterday’s pencils. I spent most of my day trying not to sweat all over my art, and was somewhat successful. They’re saying the heat will break tonight, but it’s still going to be, you know, July.
Raw scans of today’s WIP. Pencils on the bottom half of the current page. Sam and Lily have finally fallen back to ‘I’ll push the cart while you guard my blindside,’ it just took them a while because they’ve been so long apart. Yes, *guard*, supermarket trips are tactical for these two.
Raw scans of today’s WIP. Inks on yesterday’s pencils. I had hoped to get more done, but now return to my regularly scheduled programming of melting into a puddle of deliquesced flesh, just like that one Bradbury story.
Raw scans of today’s WIP. Top half of page 7, finished pencils but only one panel inked. It’s the first time Larry has cracked a smile in weeks, but Sam remains skeptical.
Raw scans of today’s WIP. Finished inks on the current page. Two more left in the chapter, which will get a bit obvious for the sake of future readers not treated to my day by day comments on the theme.
Raw scans of today’s WIP. Finished pencils, but no new inks. Sam has to offer a name correction every time he’s introduced as Lily’s father, but that’s only happened twice in the whole entire series. Wouldn’t want to get too heavy handed with the day to day matriarchal life experience stuff.
New update at Substack; Crazy old lady in the attic? I mean, Faye’s not *OLD* old. Follow link for commentary: open.substack.com/pub/calebcol... #cartoonist #comic #comics #comicbook #comicbooks #webcomic #webcomics
Raw scans of today’s WIP. Inks on that one LHS corner. Lily giving birth is going to be this story’s big climatic event, but the part where she did away with Larry’s entire family and then took all his stuff in the guise of neighborly charity is not thematically irrelevant.
Raw scans of today’s WIP. Lettering and rough pencils on the current page. Vengeance and murder are one thing, but standing around jawing and blocking the aisle in the supermarket, *that’s* evil.
Raw scans of today’s WIP. Just that one panel, finally inked, but progress is progress, if only of the incremental kind. The thing about squeaky wheels getting the grease is, some wheels just squEAk and >rattle<, it doesn’t have to be a metaphor for anything.
Raw scans of today’s WIP. Finished pencils and some inks on yesterday’s not so finished pencils. Yeah, I put the emphasis on that, it’s definitely an iste not ille type situation.
Raw scans of today’s WIP. I had hoped to get more done today, but was stung by a wasp on a load bearing finger of my drawing hand. It feels like one of those weeks when I’ve been making more excuses than comics, but maybe tomorrow when the swelling’s gone down.
Raw scans of today’s WIP. Yesterday’s pencils inked, and today’s pencils left rather incomplete because sometimes all the goddamn crosshatching takes all goddamn day.
Raw scans of today’s WIP. Just 4 little aspect-to-aspect (just save it, okay? Two people staring off panel is an aspect of their relationship) panels, and in pencils at that. What can I say, I spent too much time this morning deciding whether the U in squEAk works better as a consonant or a vowel.
New update at Substack, wherein the beast within is not so much revealed as just existing. Follow link for commentary: open.substack.com/pub/calebcol... #cartoonist #comic #comics #comicbook #comicbooks #webcomic #webcomics
Raw scans of today’s WIP. And so, finished inks on the current page, with a little white media thrown in for good measure. Um, happy Pride month, if I haven’t said so already.
Raw scans of today’s WIP. I slept late today, and thus got only as far as spot blacks after tightening up the pencils. Sometimes acceptance looks like wandering down the potato chip aisle with a blissfully ignorant smile on your face.
Raw scans of today’s WIP. What can I say, I felt okay using ‘Bear Daddy’ but ‘Pig enough for Pig Week’ would have been appropriation. Look, whatever, if Liefeld can engender lifelong buzz by butchering a reference photo of Arnie (bodybuilder, not Bear Daddy) I can do no worse
Raw scans of today’s WIP. Inks on yesterday’s pencils. Unrealistic? I had this exact conversation with father, and found myself in the not so enviable position of having to explain what banana hammock really means, but you’ll have to wait ‘til tomorrow to see how that went.
