Did some symbology. Trying to get better at free handing things (the griffin) I used some inspiration to try and figure out how to do it. This is all done with Illustrator type of programs cause I am terrible with paint tools.

From Left to Right

The Third Symbol is a griffin on a shield. This represents the Legion of Talderia, or the Black Legionares.

Magic Systems- I think this is one subject I find has been- sandersoned quite a bit, I don't fully agree with his points as they seem more like... A laymen's idea of how science works. Science is by its nature about trying to understand the world through lenses. We don't know it all.

Authors note - this was found as an image randomly. I thought it was vastly interesting and I thought I could share some thoughts.

Reddit User Posted - Physicle-Partics - As a physicist, Sanderson's magic system does not read like science to me, it is more like a layperson's idea of science (fair, as he is not a scientist) or a video game magic system.

Science is not about perfect boxes, or about hitting the one perfect truth. Science at least in my own instrumentalist worldview, is about our feeble, vain attempts to create theories, models, and categories that describe the phenomena that we observe, from nature that does not care at all about conscious minds and our attempts to understand it. These theories, models, and categories are graded by their simplicity, ability to predict phenomena, and congruence with other models. As science such is a human creation we are constantly striving toward improving those models.

Think astronomers meeting up to change the definition of planet because they realized that if Pluto got to be a planet we all of a sudden would have a shitload of them. Space rocks did not emerge with human categorization in mind and at some point, any attempt to categorize objects will inevitably fall into "planets, dwarf planets, moons, asteroids, and all the little-other fuckers".

That feeling is utterly absent in Sanderson's works. Its fair because, as I said, he is not a scientist and also his magic were literally created by conscious beings to function as a video-game power systems. It just means that it falls short of that wonderful, feeble "making sense of chaos" feeling that science has for me.

In the majority of the USA it is not (wikipedia). It should be because its non-consensual. He happens to do it in a state where... it's not legal and is considered non-consent! So most states no though! For those interested in learning about it (like me): pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC...

I might just make this the symbol of Sithians. The Bad guy faction of the book series. IDK it fits them as basically people who are lookg to revolutionize the world through Tyranny and Removal of Freedom. Sithians are marked with a tattoo. So yes. I like this design a ton.

This can be seen by how much a characters abilities are used. They have beautiful normal attacks, e's and bursts. But only one out of three will ever be meaningfully used especially sub-dps or support characters. Meaning nearly 2/3's of the kit on average characters will not even be used or seen!

To add.... God would slap someone across the face for even suggesting denying medical care and would absolutely tell you one of the commandments being : Care for thy neighbor. Quite literally this parable.

A storm descends on a small town, and the downpour soon turns into a flood. As the waters rise, the local preacher kneels in prayer on the church porch, surrounded by water. By and by, one of the townsfolk comes up the street in a canoe.

"Better get in, Preacher. The waters are rising fast."

"No," says the preacher. "I have faith in the Lord. He will save me."

Still the waters rise. Now the preacher is up on the balcony, wringing his hands in supplication, when another guy zips up in a motorboat.

"Come on, Preacher. We need to get you out of here. The levee's gonna break any minute."

Once again, the preacher is unmoved. "I shall remain. The Lord will see me through."

After a while the levee breaks, and the flood rushes over the church until only the steeple remains above water. The preacher is up there, clinging to the cross, when a helicopter descends out of the clouds, and a state trooper calls down to him through a megaphone.

"Grab the ladder, Preacher. This is your last chance."

Once again, the preacher insists the Lord will deliver him.

And, predictably, he drowns.

A pious man, the preacher goes to heaven. After a while he gets an interview with God, and he asks the Almighty, "Lord, I had unwavering faith in you. Why didn't you deliver me from that flood?"

God shakes his head. "What did you want from me? I sent you two boats and a helicopter."

From Descendants of the Storm

Winter came like it always had, drips of frost on dormant field. The last blade of a leaf to fall. Farmers prepared for the last days of harvest. Most were resting, some worked on meals and prepared their cellars to mull alcohol of all kinds. Yet for Adrian, a tea was more than enough. He hungrily poured a cup of his golden syrupy tea.

Wafting the tea into his senses. Embracing the warmed honeyed taste on his tongue.

Steam rose dramatically from the hot kettle he had set aside. An interesting brew and set if anything. Snapping his gloved fingers, a flame sparked holding it against the kettle. The kettle to start whistling. The metal glowed yet it did not burn his hand like other kettles.

The cold licked Adrian’s exposed face, tightly wrapped his cloak and sipped another. The Tea set was a sign of respect from Taradith. The ambush in the previous weeks and for slaying the Scythian.

“Slaying is inadequate, Adrian reduced it to ashes,” Stanimir had put it to the surprised written face of Taradith all those days ago. He remembered the conversation that followed

“What of the tea cups? How are they so special? Won’t I melt them?”

Taradith's laugh lived well in his mind, remarking back to him, “If you manage to break them with your flames, then you just have a broken tea set then.”

Rune Carvers
Those Whom the Ruin Took -
AKA this is complicated one

When the Ruination came none were more effected than the first and most powerful of all Magic Users: the Rune Carvers and the Rune Binders.
None are born a Rune Carver, they are made.
They are scholars often cloistered in study.
Overly Educated - Very Few in number because of their studies being overly complicated
Some are engineers, building runic guards for whole cities, towns, or villages.
Others are Hermits, tinkerers of arcane relics or weapons. Others Smithing weaponry of unequal power that nations clamber for.
To be a Rune Carver is to be a light of reason and understanding. In a place where monsters and nightmares now reign.

They can be anyone including :
Innates, Magi, Or Bonders.

Accessible to All - Mastered By Few
Carving Runes is an arduous task, one that is done by taking stones or disks and engraving them with specialized powder or ink.
A rune can be crafted from just about anything but making sure the circle it is contained is maintained.
So what it is written on will maintain the composition
This rune for example is an Eternal Rune one that repeats the casting within, it is actually several runes together to form a Rune Matrix.
The most Powerful runes are arranged into Ritual Circles.
As long as it's maintained with steady Rinir. It creates a spell based on the arrangement of the runes. These can range from full on city sized Rune Networks
If a circle is broken, the rune circle has one of two effects. If Rinir is siphoned safely it won't violently explode!

Runetekks
Runes can be placed onto anything from swords, to tablets, to books. Rune Carvers can even craft special peripherals for the impaired.
They are inscribed on solid materials with either a full seal or by hand. Though there is a limit to how many runes can be inscribed onto a single object. The known total is 14.

• There is only one item sought by magi is Rune Casters.
• They are gloves made specifically for Magi. That helps them cast spells faster. Such work is rare.
Note-
(Yes, some can look like an infinity gauntlet.)

Rune Casters are the Most sought after weapon among Magi. Casting Spells quickly is life or death for most.

Among Innates, Dancing Blades and the Venorian Steel are the most sought after.
Dancing Blades are semi-sentinent weapons that respond to the Wielders mind. Connected through a ceremony where they bind with an object.
Moon Steel or Venorian Forged, are weapons that can cut through almost any known material in the world. They are strong and heavy, and difficult to maintain balance. They will do nothing if they do not have a Rinir gem inserted into their hilts or handles.
Famous Weapons
The House Alnrian's Dawnbreaker. Which is said to be Four times the Size of its Wielders. Is both a Dancing Blade and Venorian Made. Its one of the few of its make.
The Obsidia Blades - a Pair of dancing blades made for a Dragon Prince of Aleris. These move like radiant light.
The Black Tulwar is a gold rusted blade of Venorian forging its long bloody history has leapt from Tyrant Kings to Warlords. They have long lost their white shine

Authors Rules of Magic Rant
This concludes the final of the magics found in Talkor. Hopefully it was a fun... but crazy read.
From Rune Carvers, Innates, Bonders and to Magi they are hopefully examples of how to handle magics in your own fantasy world!
But please, for the love of the Gods. Let the Rant Begin.
Magic should never just follow a single system. Do not think in soft or hard systems. Systems are messy.
From medical, physics, and others all operate with similar principles and toolkits to achieve understanding within their own realms. Its always based on understanding, and will. Magic too should be understood, not feared by the author.
Expertise, skill, and merit should always triumph over someone being born with power. Magic should not be inherited by how rich or whom you are from. Too often magic and power are granted in fantasy by blood.
Magic is defined by both its limitations and its unlimited expanse. Hard rules are great but often are not conducive to a story structure at all times.

I did a thing. This will be the third of the four major magic systems in my setting. Behold the Innates, the most common magic users in Talkor! Do you have any other types of magic systems? Do you want me to reveal the last of the magic system? I feel this was a fun challenge art wise.

Innates
Whom History Forgets
Innates are the most common form of magic users in Talkor. One in every twelve of the population are innates.
• All Innates have Abilities that appear differently.
• Some are useless. All of them can be broken down into several specifics. Such as physical capabilities, or mental, or soul.
• Innates can be beyond human in capability.
• When trained they can access even more with channeling rinir into their bodies.
• Which are specific abilities that they use.
• Some have Single Abilities.

Abilities :
Skinshift, Strength, Agility, Age, Farsight, Memory, Foresight, Soul Bind

The Three Types
Flickers are single weaker abilities that are very specific.

Manifestions are physically powerful abilities, such as strength, and speed. Often become stronger with training and practice, some gain more overtime.

Transformations are the most powerful. Also called Skinshifters or shapeshifters. Can physically alter their body, or transform into another being.

What are Innates?
Innates are the frontline of all wars, industries, and markets. Innates are usually registered within governments or local leadership. As they have advantages over others.
In some cultures such as the Kael'Tirani and the Glasglithians, innates occupy higher social societal status. Many Nobles claim to fame are their Flickers or manifestations they possess. Unlike Casters, and Bonders, Innate Abilities are passed on to their family members. Entire generations and clans exist that harbor unique abilities. The most useful of these is the ability to see Rinir and Magic with a sense known as the Sightless Sight.
Innates range from abilities, but their use to society varies. The most common Innates are those who possess physical traits. The rarest Innates are those who possess no quirks at all and instead their whole body becomes a conduit for raw Rinir energy. Some train their whole lives and become living weapons.

Types of Magic Part 2 - Bonders. This large group of magic wielders are often bound by contracts. Known colloquially as Borrowers by other magic users.

Bonders
Those Bound by Contracts Between Two Beings

First Panel is a Bonder reaching out to a Fairy - reads Bonder Creates A Binding Circle, To draw a Creature, A bond must be created, The Creature Decides on your Worth. Seals help attract a Being

Second Panel - Terms of Contract, Bonder is Offered a Contract, They Can Negotiate Terms... Sometimes Depending on the Being, A bonder must read the contract. Upon an agreement they are binded together.

Third Panel - Bonder's Magic is based on the Creatures Natural Elemental Attunement Essentially Borrowing their Casting. These creatures naturally absorb Rinir. For Mortals its lethal to do so. Mortals gain magical abilities or Physical Traits, or if their Bondee is powerful enough, both. Some Creatures Have A Moral Code. Emphasized

Panel Four- The Contracts can be revoked if the Creature finds A bonder violates the contract or oath. Left Powerless and Contractless. Sometimes they are Blackmarked never able to make another contract. So don't anger them or violate a contract! As long as They don't violate the contract, They are fine.

Panel Five -Some Will Just Kill You. Or if its Hungry. Eats You. These are Creatures afterall! Not to say you can't leave a Contract Unharmed you can. Just Don't expect to get away scot free. Unless you are a Magi.

What are Bonders?
Bonders are holders of Contracts. The Contract Holders are extremely powerful beings who have natural magic attunement. From Fae Creatures, to Gods, to Dragons, to many other creatures. Often extremely intelligent beings, they most of the time must be close proxmity to give their magic.
The common types are Blood Binders, who are bound to the contracts of Fae Creatures. These led by necessity for the Bonders and Fae as they see themselves as soldiery before Night Beasts and other creatures. Often granting them limited Magics.
Dragon Riders are the Rarest, with so few dragons being in the world. Riders are called Retainers, often among many other riders in service to a single dragon. Dragons can have as many as they want. Or how many their power allows to be divided into.

Can other Magic Users Bond?
They are very rare, as these creatures have to agree to the contract. Magi, Innates, and Runecarvers are dangerous to Bondees as they can skirt free of most of the contract rules.
Instead they would act as an amplifier instead.
Magi rarely take one as they are able to use magic. Runecarvers program complex spells. Innates are magically enhanced. So many of them do not see the need to Bond with creatures for magical power.
Often the best way they handle one another is setting agreements or alliances. Where neither can control the other. Bond Creatures often seek the help of full Magi or Innates for help against nightbeasts, or Runecarvers for complex spells.
Among the other Magical Wielders, Bonders are known: as 'Borrowers'.

Redux Part 2

Casting With Rinir A Field Guide

Frame 1 - is a Picture of a Nightbeast vs a Magi. A magi begins to cast a spell, using their focui (magical staff) to focus into a Casting Focus.

Frame 2 - Rinir is gathered from the environment into the focui, The spell begins to cast.

Frame 3 - The Spell is unleashed and the rinir dissipated into the spell. A very dead night beast. Runic Circle activates

What are Casters?
Casters are neither upperclass nor lower. They are a natural part of the world. Most range from untrained Magicians, to the educated Magi, to the extinict Druids, and the reviled Sithians.
Casters are usually bound with a single element of magic. Overtime they train their bodies and soul to inhabit several elements through careful study. Taking on Raw Rinir though is lethal. Hence for the need of tools like Rinir gems.
Magi are the Warriors of the Casters. Bound to cities, towns, and armies to help defend against Night Beasts. Magi are typically known for their long robes, and access to knowledge. Magicians are the opposite relying on familial or oral traditions. Druids maintained temples of gods.
Sithians are those who abandoned humanity.
Focui - Staffs, Swords, Books, Wands. Specifically Crafted to help FOCUS a spell's energy into a single point
Whatever that you can use to 'Focus' Rinir.

Rinir Gem - Brings Rinir to itself naturally, Stores Energy. Released upon Casting
Warning Do Not Break (it will implode)

Elemental Base- All magic has costs, and all magic has requirements. Energy, Form, and Substance

A Magi - They are needed to Cast Spells, If you aren't a magi! You cannot cast! Magi happen randomly, they are not bloodline connected. Some nobles go generations without a single Magi in their family. Only for a Random Villager to have a magi child! Some think its Random, others think its fate! Who knows!

Southern Talkoria - or the Dead Lands - Is a region I wanted to redo for sometime, its essentially where every major event happened before the events of book 1. Essentially their version of unified Empires. A mass grave, filled with ghosts still fighting a war they long lost.

Writing the song. Its supposed to be... well informative and musically inclined. People will randomly sing the song or quote it. Its essentially an epic that was written so long ago, its how most people remember what happened in the world of Talkoria (Main planet of the book)
