if you tried Shaderland, my learn-graphics-programming zachlike, in the arcade at #emfcamp - or for that matter if you didn't and you're like 'hold on what?' - pop a wishlist on steam and get the (slightly fixed up) demo in the next couple of weeks! store.steampowered.com/app/4487340/...
left is no diffuse, right is just reading and writing the same texel after drawing the particles which *should* be a noop. if each shader invocation only dealt with one texel it would be fine. but the particle can be drawn anywhere, so it can get overwritten by the blur from another invocation.
today we implemented a dialogue system in shaderland and it's all starting to get Quite Pretty =)
tonight for the @field-fx.party shader jam, recreating flopine's shader from the @revision-party.bsky.social shader showdown. github.com/canmom/jams/... #demoscene #shader #glsl
'nobody' was as good as @ani-obsessive.bsky.social promised, goddamn. and director yu shui even stuck around to sign stuff after ♡
annecyblogging, dimanche! www.tumblr.com/canmom/82003... www.tumblr.com/canmom/82005... only a couple of blocks to write to today but they were pretty cool ones! city seems especially lively; market in the morning, bands playing every street corner in the eve. as beautiful as ever
bonsoir à annecy! with @yrgirl.bsky.social :3 if any of you are in town for the film festival (or some other mysterious reason...) and wish to say hi, lmk ^^
last week we showed up to the shader jam while in a very altered state, and tried to express something rather inscrutable as a shader (sphere = blahaj = memdmp = transfemininity = recursion) well the idea was sound?? this week i got the thing working and damn, we were onto something #demoscene
and yesterday, a monster of a chapter with much to theorise... and a chance to find out how to spell '-dunnit' words in japanese canmom.art/livereads/um...
judge schreber is like the paradigmatic case of a schizophrenic person from freud's writings or something but like... this person is just trans?? which makes it quite funny that D&G then start in on this egg thing
for tonight's @field-fx.party shader jam, a tribute to 'Empires' by @conspiracy.hu - obviously far short of the real deal (and if you crank up the depth of field, a real gpu-killer), but pretty happy to get this effect working in an hour or two! github.com/canmom/jams/... #demoscene
my @revision-party.bsky.social shader showdown entry... with a fair few more hours on it. quadtree + semi-analytic marching + camera moves + a whole lot of figuring out tricky bugs, pretty happy with where it ended up though :3 (music: www.youtube.com/watch?v=ND5d... by PAON)
a year ago I heard about shader livecoding and resolved to make it to the #RevisionParty2026 shader showdown stage... and guess what :3 time to see where all that mountaintop shader training at fieldfx got us!
'style copyright' is thankfully recognised as a trap, except... instead they want to propose a new copyright-like thing for protecting a 'persona', such as voice. exactly what that would entail is hard to imagine. it is dystopian to imagine you might sell your 'persona rights' to a corpo!
notable they describe the 'soft power' created by the UK creative industry in such specific terms. it does not sit well to have my works be recognised as an element of UK soft power to be exploited; I want it to belong to the international mycorrhizal tranny society, not its current host nations
This octree tracer idea was one of the very first things I tried doing at the @field-fx.party shader jams when I started, finally have a version of it that works! #demoscene
glaswegian trans people! do you want to see some sick animation? tomorrow at the Small Trans Library we're showing Jonni Peppers's compilation WASTELAND! a profoundly emotional collection of five thematically linked short films about flat-earthers, UFO cults and hotdog eyeball surgeries awaits~
For this week's @field-fx.party shader jam, I extended my fragment shader pathtracer to use cosine-weighted sampling and support multiple spheres. plus a small box blur ('we have restir at home'...) Catnip suggested a cute little rolling shutter effect to make the spheres wobbly.
I can't claim it's efficient, but for this week's @field-fx.party jam, I made a little pathtracer in a fragment shader! featuring the world's hackiest temporal accumulation #demoscene src: github.com/canmom/jams/...
I wrote about creating intricate twisty shapes by integrating divergence-free fields, using Rust, wgpu and compute shaders! github.com/MagnusThor/s... You can run the effect in a WebGPU-enabled browser here: canmom.art/noodles/ src: github.com/canmom/noodles #demoscene #graphics #wgpu #rust
updates!! canmom.art/livereads/um... canmom.art/livereads/um... canmom.art/livereads/um... canmom.art/livereads/um... canmom.art/livereads/um...
I finished writing the story of going to Revision this year. It ended up some 17,000 words long because I wanted to cover *everything*. And... I did! Eventually! Retrospective, exposition of the scene, archive... I don't know, but I'd be glad if you read! #demoscene canmom.art/adventure/de...
Tonight's @field-fx.party shader jam... plus a bit of extra time. I want to play around with divergence-free 3D noise but to begin with I made a 2D effect advecting along a 2D slice! Finally starting to get somewhere resembling fluid sim ^_^ #demoscene #shader github.com/canmom/jams/...
Swizzle the ferret now runs through through the world you generate in Shaderland. same pixel-precise automaton under the hood, but much cuter. #gamedev #demoscene #indiegame #proceduralanimation
Tonight's @field-fx.party shader jam, I am casting rays out against an infinite field of the Game of Life. github.com/canmom/jams/... Each pixel essentially owns its own game of life cell on a toroidal play area which tiles the plane. A noise texture is added based on the FFT. #demoscene
Tonight's @field-fx.party shader jam - particle sim in a fragment shader using image atomic operations. (I apologise to any vertex shaders in the audience for my shameful disrespect of the proper render pipeline!!) #demoscene #livecoding source: github.com/canmom/jams/...
can't decide if this article was written by LLM or just full of really corny similes, either way not inspiring a ton of confidence (& to compare two translations into chinese, surely it should show us the chinese text, not just a 'what it would have sounded like in english' representation?)
