The grocery shopping equivalent of “it was just the Fourth of July, why are the back to school displays up already?” is “why the fuck are there mooncakes already?”
My favorite bit of summer trivia is that as late as 160 years ago, people were still debating if you should swim vertically (like you’re standing up) or horizontally (like you’re fucking swimming).
Favorite doughnut place put a free extra doughnut in our order. I caught the 80s Twilight Zone episode where Ron Glass plays a demon. The swimming pool temp is in the 80s even at 7am before anyone else gets there. Finished deadline in time to take edibles and watch Wizards.
I mean this was our wedding menu at Husk in Nashville, 2016. The summer squash was a cold dish held together with a buttermilk agar agar gel.
Comics fan from day one. (Or at least day ... what, 1400 or something.) (Also a Fargo North, Decoder, fan.)
As the humanities dork son of MIT nerds, I am a long-time appreciator of science news headlines, and have determined that the good ones sound like one of two things: postpunk or 90s indie records, or (as in this case) something a breathless 6 year old tells you out of the blue.
Facebook tells me it's ten years since our cat Gretchen died. She was weird and nuts and frustratingly fearless, and she loved bottarga and jumping up on you and shoving her face in your ice cream bowl. She used to take naps on unattended warm pizza boxes.
Did I live in New Orleans too long or are all but one of these obvious? (NACK a tish) The ACTUAL tough ones are Chartres, Calliope, and Burgundy. You can see peoples’ eyes cross when you correct them.
One of these days a captcha will ask me to select the Paul Thomases Anderson from a sea of Joshuas Jackson, and you’ll just never hear from me again.
First of all, fuck you. Second, you GOTTA stop changing what the acronyms mean.
Two rewatches of movies I absolutely love, two very different horror movies. Witchboard doesn't entirely work but I'm glad to see Chuck Russell back in horror. Loved Backrooms enough that I immediately checked out the shorts, which almost put me to sleep. Interested in what the kid does next.
I'm not fact checking this project, and in context it doesn't matter, but: this isn't true. Or at least, there are important ways in which it isn't true. To say that you have a 1 in 3.7 million chance of being killed by a shark is like saying you have a 1 in 8 billion chance of being Wallace Shawn.
I always seem to get the same thing for my free Starbucks drink: Swamp Water, matcha with three shots.
The coffee and cigarette stains remind me of the replica Declarations of Independence I used to get at gift shops in DC etc, but the PS about disk formats and Genie of all things is what really dates it. Kids today don’t even get an acceptance letter to stain, do they? They get an email.
