Between James Talarico and Pope Leo XIV, we're in a golden age of public figures who are devout in their faith in an authentic and genuine way that, to many people, scans as vastly more progressive than it is when contextualized by the state of Christianity's public face in the US.

I don't think either are secretly right wing, to be sure, but I do think people are reading them as somehow "leftist" between simple projection driven by binary thinking and, again, the context of just how bonkers politically-relevant Christianity is.
