Postie just delivered a finished copy of @franceshardinge.bsky.social's new books (publishes 27th Aug) and it is lucky I've already read the proof otherwise I'd be cancelling this afternoon's bbq. My Hardinge bookend should really be a goose or a magpie...Thanks @macmillankidsuk.bsky.social!
How could I not love Queens of the Crypt by Dom&Ink, when the librarian (and library) is so important to our protagonist, #nonbinary Barnaby. Camp gothic horror with laugh-out-loud scenes as well as classic teen angst #KidLitUK #UKYA #GraphicNovel thanks @hotkeybooks.bsky.social!
Supa Nova being longlisted for the #DiverseBookAwards reminded me that @nosycrow.bsky.social recently sent me the sequel! #KidLitUK
OMG I wouldn't usually say goats cheese, but we went to a place called 'Pick & Cheese', where they serve you small portions of lots of different cheese+sides, & we had this St Ella with Turkish delight and it was one of the best things I've ever eaten.
Starting the proof of Beastwoven by A.B. Hamilton, another fine looking YA fantasy!
And, speaking of being an artist, @graffegbooks.bsky.social sent me this wonderful explanation of what an illustrator does! I Am An Illustrator by Kertu Sillaste was originally published in Estonia, it was #translated into English by Adam Cullen #PictureBook
Second from @littletigeruk.bsky.social is this gorgeous book about being an artist (I shared it with our art teacher immediately). The fun of trying new things and enjoying not being perfect. #KidLitUK #PictureBook #Art
I was sent some brilliant books last week that I must share: first up is 'Rosie's Walk' for the next generation! Dodo is going for a gentle walk in the jungle and there's absolutely nothing to worry about...Nice twist at the end though! Thanks @littletigeruk.bsky.social! #KidLitUK #PictureBook
Ooh, so many good ones! Adding some old faves I've not seen mentioned yet #KidsBooksFriday
Game's going well then @nedhartley.com @abbieheadon.bsky.social @thatdocphoenix.com
I just read Then We'll Be Happy, #ownvoices #disability rep from debut Irish YA author Alan Carrigan. He and his protagonist, Sam, have cerebral palsy and a great sense of humour. Sam also has to deal with every day (& internalised) ableism. A great read, thanks @chickenhousebooks.bsky.social!
Oooh, I love a retelling & Wolf Siren is up there with the best! There are some great picturebooks, but recent favourite (& a perfect read-aloud for the moment as it hits Pride Month & the World Cup) is The Perfect Match by Chris Becker & Dan Taylor, pub.d by @nosycrow.bsky.social #KidsBooksFriday
Just starting 'Youngest Faircrest and the Search for a Sorcerer', written by Ollie George Clark. Illustrated by Tom Knight (nice b&w illustrations inside too). Fantastical (& fantastically silly - 3 chapters in & he's hiding a pig in his satchel at school) MG @dkbooks.bsky.social
This reminded me of something that made me laugh more than it should have (but I sadly don't know where it came from)
How can @theguardian.com run a piece about the danger of normalising Reform's ideas, and then the first recommended piece beneath be literally *normalising reform* FFS [Rhetorical question, I know how, I'm disappointed* not surprised] *enraged
I bought myself a copy of this. Super cute but also not plain sailing #KidLitUK
I remember enjoying this but it was 20 years ago so I can't actually remember how good the story was and whether it was just that I know the story and enjoyed the illustrations, if you see what I mean!
'Max and Ella, Stuck Together' is as enjoyable as @krahim.bsky.social's debut, 'The Doughnut Club'. She writes about children of donors (in this book: a lesbian couple & a single mum), and weaves a great story around them. Thanks for the proof @nosycrow.bsky.social, it publishes on 7th May #KidLitUK
I love the chapter headings in this! Thanks @nosycrow.bsky.social #KidLitUK
This is a gorgeous book, thanks @penguinukbooks.bsky.social @puffinbooksuk.bsky.social for sending me a copy! Really interesting (based on Katy Hessel's grownup book) & fabulous illustration by Ping Zhu. Suitable for primary and secondary libraries #KidLitUK #NonFiction #EduSky
Isn't this just one of the most beautiful things you've ever seen? 25th anniversary edition of @malorieblackman.bsky.social's stunning, heartbreaking, & enraging YA novel, Noughts & Crosses. Must read it again! #KidLitUK Thanks for a copy @penguinrandomhouse.bsky.social @penguinukbooks.bsky.social

Happy #Valentines! This is the only story you need today. @nadiashireen.bsky.social brings Rachel Bright's words to life - reading it with classes last week I had young TAs gasping at the twist, really taking it to heart, reflecting on their own romantic paths 😁 #KidLitUK #InternationalBookGivingDay
Last week @littleislandbooks.bsky.social sent me a copy of this verse YA novel by @rurooie.bsky.social & I have devoured it today over 2 heartbreaking bus journeys. Shorelines is a retelling of The Little Mermaid & completely not was I expecting, full of rage & injustice.
My immediate thought is The Boy Who Loved Everyone by Jane Porter and Maisie Paradise Shearring #KidsBooksFriday #KidLitUK
