A retired vicar and three others from CCA were convicted today after dropping a banner saying "Don't Crucify Creation” from Bath Abbey as part of a national day of action last year, calling on the Church of England to speak out more about the existential threat of the Climate and Nature Emergency.

Why must the Church of England Synod pass the motion to use 30% of Church Commissioners vast landholdings to protect nature? Today’s Government report on delivering the vital 30% by 2030 to protect nature says only 7% of land in England meets the 30by30 criteria. Shockingly bad news for nature.

We are praying that the Church of England’s General Synod passes the motion to protect nature on Church Commissioners' land in line with the scale and urgency of the climate and biodiversity crises. The Commissioners hold the responsibility and the opportunity to lead in restoring God’s creation.

Not everyone can engage in protest in the way we did on Waterloo Bridge but I believe those of us who can are being called to a deeper, more radical and more sacrificial way of life at this moment in history. CCA’s 84 year old Rev Sue Parfitt - one of seven acquitted today by a jury of interfering with key national infrastructure by marching slowly on Waterloo Bridge. We are grateful to Sue, her co-defendants, and all those who risk their liberty to try to get meaningful action on the climate crisis.

The heatwave has given us a glimpse of the very real, very serious consequences of rapid climate change. This is why we give up our time, money, comfort and sometimes our liberty, to get business and government to do the right thing. Maybe it’s time to join us.

In the heat we’ve been outside the Alliance for Responsible Citizenship conference because it claims to be building responsible citizenship, but irresponsibly promotes speakers who advocate rolling back on the limited progress that we have made on lowering emissions and addressing climate change.

Our vigilers were careful today taking all the necessary precautions, and it was important for them to stand in solidarity with all those who are unable to protect themselves, all those that are suffering from this heat. The frequency and intensity of heatwaves has increased worldwide.

Oxford CCA joined with WildCard and Oxford Climate Choir last weekend to draw attention to the motion being brought to July’s Church of England General Synod calling on the Church to support the restoration of nature on 30% of Church land by 2030. (1/3 cont. ⤵️)

We went to hand in 100 of our origami roses, each rose representing 10,000 people who signed the petition against the Rosebank oil field, and read out a letter to Rachel Reeves.

This morning we spread paper roses across the steps of HM Treasury to remind Rachel Reeves that one million people recently signed a petition asking the government to refuse approval for a new oilfield in UK waters.

CCA Ethical Banking vigil today at St Albans Cathedral (who bank with Barclays). Prayed and gave flyers to many interested visitors and Cathedral volunteers. Further dialogue was agreed. In 2024 Barclay’s fossil fuel investment rose by a shocking $11.2bn to $35.4bn. (no figures for 2025 available).

Oil and gas companies spend millions of ££ on lobbying. The Government met fossil fuel lobbyists 500 times in their first year in power. We pray for an end to this lobbying which undermines our democracy behind closed doors, erodes trust, and makes good decisions more difficult.

We were there as Barclays opened their new branch on Queen Street Cardiff. We will keep praying and witnessing for banks to cut ties with destructive oil companies. #nofaithinfossilfuels

The new Banking On Climate Chaos 2026 report has it in a nutshell. “Affordable energy, environmental justice, respect for human rights, and a livable climate are all critical pillars of society, and all profoundly influenced by choices made by the world’s largest banks.”

We don’t just do protests. We also sit down to talk and listen. That’s why we went along to a Church Commissioners event last week to ask questions about how they are using their assets to safeguard climate and nature, and to continue to urge upon them the need to act with commitment and urgency.

Climate solutions are taking root in every corner of the planet. Spread the word. Action to protect the planet is happening everywhere, it and we can all be a part of it. But we need to make sure it happens faster! For the sake of the planet, for the sake of its people.
