The Old Dock in Essex, NY. Love the history. Constructed after the War of 1812 as a warehouse and pier for Lake Champlain canal boats. Beautiful hand hewn exposed beams and wide plank floors! Nice view, good food. Also accessible by boat.

Fly fishing part 2

A while later in the lodge: By this time, everyone knew what had happened! People kept coming over and complimenting me in English for having caught such a big fish! My friend, Kevin, was able to remove the hook from Renee's ear, and everyone was impressed with his technique.

So, the third day was a day of fishing in the morning with an awards ceremony in the afternoon. Kevin and I were in a boat together, as Renee apparently had decided he had enough! We were both fishing, and I got a bite! And was able to land a small trout! Then, I heard Renee yelling, "Carolyn, was that you?" And I yelled, "Yeeess" and he yelled back, " I'm so glad!"

In conclusion, I got an award for catching the only fish in the class. So, you are looking at an award winning fly fishing women!

First Fly Fishing story in alt txt.

So, I had a friend who was big into fishing. He read an article in the local paper about someone who had gone to a fishing lodge in Quebec for fly fishing and instruction. It was highly recommended so we decided to go.

I can't remember now what the lodge was called or exactly where it was. I just remember driving 4 or 5 hrs beyond Montreal.

The lodge was only accessible by boat. It was on the main lake along with 1 or more bunk houses. Our building had meeting space on the first floor with bedrooms and communal toilets and showers (just like 4H camp) on the second. There were no locks on the doors, and the walls were paper thin!

The lodge was magnificent. Huge, wood paneled walls, exposed beams, high ceilimgs, stone fireplaces. It had been built as a private retreat.

French was the language. An English speaking guide had been hired just for us. His name was Renee. He was probably in his 60s, white hair, a white bushey mustache . I loved him!

Dinner was family style seating. Renee sat with us, introduced us, and translated to include us in the conversation. The food was incredible! Main courses like Elk and Caribou and Wild Boar.

The program was 3 days. Casting instruction and practice both on land and then from the boats, some general fly knowledge, and fishing. There were a series of lakes. You took a small outboard from point A to B, walked a short way, and took another boat from point C to D, etc. Lunch was at a barbeque area. If you caught fish, someone cleaned it and cooked it . If not, then something was provided.

So, first day was uneventful. Renee accompanied us on the water. We practiced casting, but didn't catch anything. On the second day, I was in the boat with Renee. Kevin was fishing alone. So, Renee was behind me, and I was starting to cast, and my hook caught his ear!!! I was horrified! And he was so gracious. Kept telling me it was OK!

Patio lime update: The first photo is my original post, entitled, " I have baby limes"!! The second is the tree a few days ago after I moved it back outside. The third is me holding the largest lime, which fell off overnight. I'm going to cut it and garnish a margarita tonight!

The sunset tonight turned the world shades of pink and blue!
