i used to be one of those insufferable living statue people, staying still enough to fade into invisibility comes naturally to me, but she is done doing that trick for the day, sorry 🙏 I'm thrilled the shrimp are being enriched this way!
the floating platform of java moss, duckweed, salvia minima + a forest of hair algae acts as a nursery + cantina for newly born fry. It's also a popular foraging spot for snails and shrimp, the female below having only just *walked up out of the water* to cross the moss to nibble on some fresh food
an ich/worm infestation tore through the tank and killed 60% - 90% of my stock :< thankfully the meds are working and my water change procedure is easy + automatic, so overall its looking a lot better than it was.
raising these fry has been very easy so far; if i could sell off half my colony every 4 months this would be a very low-stress income stream 🙏🙏🙏
egg log! i have harvested 154 eggs in less than a month. I've decided to raise the sexually mature offspring with their parents in a colony inside the 30g, and just practice periodic culls to keep the gene pool strong. Realistically the only way to do it w/o buying another tank (I'm tanked out)
i count about 16 of these oldest fry, who are at most 2.5 weeks old, alongside a swarm of freshly hatched babies i hope they wont eat. I'm keeping a log of the eggs i harvest every few days, and am trying to organize a fry-growout system that makes sense.
this suitor has shown up to dinner with a rather tacky rented tux, and i am biding my time until i meet his replacement
she is stunning...absolute perfection. highest grade possible. unfortunately...
I finally documented the courtship display/dance-off my Pseudomugil Gertrudae Aru IVs do for the females at feeding time! Ah, these fish are so cool.
i tried to catch the two male Pseudomugils doing their dance-off over brine shrimp breakfast, but i had to take a call. Here is that snail again.
i count 5 fry in here, with one being significantly older/larger than the others. Hopefully the roots offer plenty of hiding spots for the younger fry!
