Squidman@cephalopodophile· 20d Twampy Fwamp: Sometimes wonderful book recs come from my mother, or from a friend, this one came from #booksky. Military sci-fi isn’t my typical bag, but Old Man’s War was a real pleasure. I look forward to indulging in the rest of the series. I love having multiple serials going simultaneously.

Squidman@cephalopodophile· 29d Twenty Three: wrapped this one up late last night and went to bed instead of posting. These books are tremendous. Great if you want to consider what your place in this world is all about. 💙📚 #booksky

Squidman@cephalopodophile· 29d Gonna tell my kids this was Edgar Bergen and Charlie McCarthy.

Squidman@cephalopodophile· Jul 7 Twampy-twamp: I love Saunders and Vigil is no exception. I’ve missed some of his more recent works and am going to have to brush up on all of it. Stupendous stuff.

The #mets find new ways to embarrass themselves on and off the field. #metssky

Squidman@cephalopodophile· Jul 2 Also spotted a lot more Mexico jerseys than Austria ones. And not one person has mentioned my cool Pau Gasol shirt—which is frankly perfect for a Spain game in LA.

Squidman@cephalopodophile· Jul 2 It’s really hard to express what it’s like to be at this. But I remember living in New York when they hosted the Super Bowl (in New Jersey at MetLife) and it was a fart compared to this.

Squidman@cephalopodophile· Jul 2 Twenty One: Fitting that I’d finish this opus on the eve of going to my first #fifa World Cup Match. This is a great book for someone who is already very familiar with the sport and wants to know how it developed across the world. At almost 900 pages, it’s a commitment.

Squidman@cephalopodophile· Jun 13 Truly understood the assignment.

Squidman@cephalopodophile· Jun 11 I misread this and thought it said “share the excrement.” No one talks about the hidden joys of dyslexia.

Squidman@cephalopodophile· Jun 9 Twenty: I love this series. Martha Wells is such a funny and entertaining writer. And I can’t wait for season 2.

Squidman@cephalopodophile· Jun 7 Any chance you could tell us about this guy?

Squidman@cephalopodophile· Jun 3 Nineteen: The Survivalists by Kashana Cauley. And now I’m worried about termites. Definitely gonna recommend this to the doomers I know as well as the couple of normal people I also know.

Squidman@cephalopodophile· May 31 Found this footage of Wembanyama dancing.

Squidman@cephalopodophile· May 21 Hate to share screen shots from hell, but this seems worth it:

Squidman@cephalopodophile· May 16 Eighteen: The Cooke Booke or Dream Boogie by Peter Guralnick. I went in only knowing Cooke’s music and next to nothing about his life. Upon finishing it I feel a lot like reporter did at the end of Citizen Kane: I know his story, but I don’t think I know him. I’d bet Guralnick feels the same.

Squidman@cephalopodophile· Apr 30 Seventeen: As I’ve said, I read short stories between books to fill gaps—when I want to keep reading but am not ready to start another book. So I just finished City Life by Donald Bathelme. His stories never fail to befuddle and delight me.

Squidman@cephalopodophile· Apr 30 Sixteen, Ubik: Haven’t read pkd in quite a long time. Great book for anyone into philosophical sci-fi. I’m gonna have to revisit some of his other’s. I don’t really remember why I stopped reading him.

Squidman@cephalopodophile· Apr 23 Fifteen: simenon’s maigret books never disappoint. I would have expected to finish this quicker, but the flu & strep got me down.

Squidman@cephalopodophile· Apr 17 It’s so much worse than that… and it’s not gonna get better with 3 in Chicago.

Squidman@cephalopodophile· Apr 17 Fourteen: Well this certainly was impressive. I can’t think of a person I wouldn’t recommend On The Calculation Of Volume Book 1 to. I might start book 2 very soon. This is one of those rare books where at the end I both wanted to speed up to see what happens and slow down to savor it.
