Academic DJ. These views are my own. Who else could they belong to? My BlueSky feed is large. It contains multitudes. #GoBirds I write somewhat regularly over at The Academic DJ Substack:
After stops in Pittsburgh (for InitialView’s Dialogue Council) & California (for the CandleUSC Design Sprint) last week, the @eactl.bsky.social tour of America continues in Newport, RI (for the St. George's School's annual Building Bridges teaching & learning conference).
Me: Now is a good time to review my notes from the week. There was a lot of good stuff in there. Some misses too, but lots of good to consider and implement. My kids:
When I get home from hell this afternoon. (The aforementioned Urban Air birthday party).
Good morning from the back 40. The deer have started to gain the upper-hand. The horrors persist, but so do I (and this honeydew).
Them: “How was your long weekend?!?” Me: “I drove to work so my kid could work out with a former student. And I’m not mad about it.” (Always be recruiting)
Mixed in some mixed greens harvesting in between tornado warnings. I will take 300 days of summer please and thank you. “We gon’ be rich forever.”—Rick Ross, Justin Cerenzia
Let the 6 year old soccer obsessed hyena stay up late to watch Messi. The World Cup? 10/10. No notes. What A Life.
Late start this year, but the garden is starting to really pop off. (We love to see a Lightning Bug in the lettuce)
That’s a wrap on 3 bros on the same bus and I can tell you absolutely no one is happier about that than their bus driver.
Which version of masculinity is this? Because it’s definitely not toxic. *Asking for Dads on the internet.
Small town America…STILL GOT THE JUICE! Ice cream man—AN ALGERIAN IMMIGRANT—with the door to door service. *Will Smith’s ‘Summer Time’ plays aggressively on the patio shortly thereafter*
1. Makes 12+ saves in regulation. 2. Makes 5 in OT, INCLUDING A PK! 3. Makes 4/5 saves in the shootout to bring home his 3rd consecutive title. (I have no idea who this child is. But clearly being a goalie is partially genetic)
He’s going to hate this with the passion of 1 million suns. (No idea where he gets that from…and also I can’t wait.)
Year 20 (21 maybe? You lose count after awhile…) in the books! Friday exam and some grading to button up. Great group of students this year (they’re all great) but none of them have sent me away with this kind of haul! I’m a simple man.
Hmm…seems like the Bruins and Celtics aren’t playing. I guess it’s this then. It’s good to have friends in high places.
Love it when my kids branch out and do cool things I never did growing up. Prince Hans (of the Southern Isles) didn’t disappoint tonight. “Dad, tell them I play football too!” (He plays football too) Stage dad, activated.
We are having fun #online and praising the prince who was promised, Mr. Tyrese Maxey.
HUGE TILT for the Golden Eagles tonight as they take their unblemished, 4-0-0 record up against a pesky and dangerous Red Team (nameless bums, imo). LEGGGGO! #GreatCoaching #DadsTheCoach
If, as a parent, you are causing a scene on the sidelines of a U6 soccer game because of what the kids are doing on the field, I can assure you there is precisely one villain in the scenario and that villain is you. Top shelf parenting too. And to think I “missed” coaching after 3 years off.
House smells of bacon and pancakes. Kids throwing batting practice to one another in the yard. Birds are thriving at the feeders and in the tree line. I’m like a suburban Rick Ross, “Rich forever.”
Slowly becoming more and more unhinged in the Kindergarten soccer chat. I like to keep the parents on their toes.
