A design like this would have many edges over modern grip mag weapons, some sport shooters are even using mag-forwards.
In honor of #FridayFucksorSucks a new gun design I came up with when the question was seriously posed: why do we not do mag forward pistols anymore? I call this one the Arcade Magnum Mk1, chambered in .357/.38 special, it is designed with comfort, power, and accuracy first as a revolver replacement.
