everyones understandably talking about the mysteriously worded "yuri" part from the lara interview but i really liked this bit too. Respect!!

In anime production, each department focuses on their own role, and it's easy to fall into a kind of unspoken consensus. Of course, that's what keeps the projects from falling apart and allows them to take shape, but I still can't help but wonder if that's enough. But since we've been given the opportunity to create an original anime, I refuse to abandon a raw approach, no matter how difficult it gets. Otherwise, I feel like our work wouldn't be any different from what AI could generate. I would be delighted if the audience could feel that this anime was created by human hands.

Q - Could you elaborate a bit more on the power of Homura?

Urobuchi - The weapon that looks like Homura's shield is actually a sand timer. When the flow of the sand is blocked, time is stopped. And when there is no sand on the upper part of the sand timer and then the timer is reverted, one month's worth of time is turned back. But before that stage is reached, only time stopping is possible. This means the special power of Homura is the ability to manipulate one month's time's worth of sand in the sand timer. As for the time passed and then turned back, since it was not the focus in this work I did not think it through very thoroughly. I think you can say that the world split up and became parallel worlds there.

The presence of the parasite inhibits the development of the crab's gonads, which eventually atrophy; it also prevents the crab from molting, consequently preventing it from regenerating lost limbs. The parasite causes a male crab to develop certain feminine characteristics including the broadening of its abdomen,[8] while in females, the abdomen becomes narrower and the pleopods degenerate. The eggs of the parasite develop in the externa and both male and female crabs carry these eggs around, secured under their abdomen, in the way that female crabs normally care for their own brood (but males never do). If the parasite is experimentally removed from the host, female crabs will usually regenerate their ovaries, but in males, sex change takes place and they develop ovarian tissue.[7]

The eggs inside the externa are fertilized by male larvae which enter the sac through a pore. These males are tiny, never become adults and soon die. However, the female, including the externa, can live for as long as the crab host survives, perhaps one or two years.[5] Hundreds of eggs are produced every day and remain in the sac for about six weeks. When the parasite eggs are ready for release, the crab will climb onto a rock, bob about to release them and waft them on their way.[5] The cycle then continues with each generation.

34. Backrooms (2026) 💜 .dlo sraey 02 si eH

i think this movie is probably the best a "backrooms" film could have turned out. they really took a gamble with letting parsons direct, but it was absolutely the right move to make- nobody else has their finger on the pulse of what makes the backrooms compelling and scary more than he does. as a directorial debut, it's extremely impressive. not flawless, this is a good movie but i still feel like it's still missing something to make it a "great" movie. maybe a stronger screenplay? its not that i felt like the story and characters were bad, just that there could have been better execution. it's hard to pinpoint what it is exactly. maybe more time to build up clark's mental break? there are implications that he's spending much longer periods the backrooms then what we are actually shown onscreen, i wonder if there is a way that could have been conveyed a bit better without making the entire film his backrooms exploration (i mean i would still watch ngl)

what the film TRULY excels at creating atmosphere, which is the #1 thing any film based on the backrooms should hope to excel at. the stifling brightness of the backrooms is used to full effect here, making use of every corner and shadow to build tension. and it works! there are some really creepy scenes! i also have to compliment the sound design, it's fantastic and one of the film's strongest points imo. lots of great ambience

i binged watched the entirety of kane's backrooms webseries before watching this film but it's really not necessary to do so unless you're like me and get autistic off web horror. it works perfectly fine as a standalone story. it finds the ideal balance between being something established fans would enjoy while also being accessible outsiders. making async a side element instead of the focus was 100% the right move. putting the spotlight on some random average people creates a story that is much more psychologically compelling. we're not here to understand the backrooms, we're here to experience the backrooms

clark and mary were pretty engaging as characters. i enjoyed the parallels between them, how both of them are stuck in this liminal space (heh) in their lives, not really moving anywhere with their respective careers. something something American capitalist hellscape. it also didn't escape me how both seem to have very little going on in terms of close personal connections. this is a lot more obvious with clark (because its pointed out), but you see it with mary too. maybe Life was the real Backrooms (2026) all along.............

some misc notes/observations (SPOILERS)

- i don't think i've seen chiwetel ejiofor or renate reinsve in many things before, at least things that have put them on my radar. they certainly ARE now, both were great in this. i am very familiar with mark duplass though lol

- dude thank GOD kane went with still lifes in this movie instead of the lifeforms. if he used the lifeforms this would be a very different and way less interesting film. still lifes >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> lifeforms

- one of those caveman standees from the movie shows up in found footage #3 from the webseries. back then i just assumed it was some random shit the backrooms generated, but the film shows it's actually async who makes them. i guess they plant them as "bait" to attract anything that could be caught on camera. pretty cool! found footage #3 as a whole works as like an extended teaser for the stuff in this film

- speaking of async, i liked their portrayal here. though they have the role of saviors at the end of the movie, they are unreliable ones. you get the impression that they as an organization are not that different from clark as a person. both are obsessed with the backrooms at the expense of any good judgement. also the revelation that they used to be MRI manufacturers? awesome. before they discovered the backrooms they were doing mundane shit like everyone else, and now they are way out of their depth (like clark!!!)

- great ending imo, it doesn't give you any real answers and leaves a strong impression. anything that puts enough faith in the audience not to spell itself out gets points from me
