Board games
A couple of weeks ago, I took all these games with me to a cabin in the woods for some solo gaming fun! How do you rate my choices? 🙈
This was a legitimate hand I drew in Compile! We were playing with Chaos, a set that exchanges cards between decks, but to not only get all these cards in my deck but draw them on the same turn is wiiiiiildly unlikely! One of my fave games btw, playing it a lot lately, you should be too ❤️
In games news, we finally got the turtles to the table! Sadly, Shredder (particularly his blasted foot clan) were too much for Raphael, Geralt and Shakespeare to handle and we lost, but what a fun ride.
Finally finished this delightful game focused book by @timclare.bsky.social Enjoyed the historical (well researched) looks at older games as well as the dip into other cultures and modern games, with really great analysis of what games are and what makes them great. Recommend 👍
I love God of War, the reveal of Laufey was incredible but I am cryyyyying at this: they motion captured Jack Quaid who is playing a gelatinous cube?! Did they really need to do this? 😂
Want to shout out a great Ukranian publisher I spoke to at @ukge.bsky.social Their games look cool but they have a great story behind them too! Boardova (not on Bsky yet) Games pictured: Aridnyk (tike laying, folklore inspired game about collecting sheep) & 1984 Unperson (Orwellian approved game!)
Off the back of similar events in the US, really great to see the Bastion Indie Games Market doing really well here at the @ukge.bsky.social! Full of great games and creativity
In case anybody like me was curious, the new set for Compile (Main and Aux 3) is primarily based around the seven deadly sins! Got to try it out at Spiral Galaxy Games stall @ukge.bsky.social and it doesn't disappoint!
You know what, I'm incredibly grateful for the Playtest UK team! It's full of great people who volunteer, and it helps facilitate the development of games by some incredibly creative and talented people. If you ever get the opportunity to check them out, test a game, please do!
Uno had a glow up. Paging @smoshgames.bsky.social for Gentleman's Uno perhaps?
Sexy/spooky shenanigans going on at @hachettebguk.bsky.social Snake Charmers booth at UKGE Initially confusing but clever social deduction game with shifting allegiances @ukge.bsky.social
At the @ukge.bsky.social Feel free to say hi if you see me! Rumour has it I might even accept hugs 🧸
These are games I'd likely not have played if we didn't get them at work, and they're both decent! Biddle is my fave, a dice rolling challenge game with underbidding mechanics (reminds me of Gang of Dice), while Deduckto is a more accessible and better designed logic deduction game than Cluedo
Come Sail Away by Saashi & Saashi was entertaining; a meeple placing, route optimisation game set on a cruise ship, with some cute art and enough variability to want me to play more!
The graphic direction on the new Godzilla King of Tokyo game is beautiful.
Really starting to question my description of myself as 'not a collector' at this point! I just can't get enough @restorationgames.bsky.social
Had a rough few months because of reasons, but I did gather the time to check out Earthborne Rangers recently. Narrative strong games are definitely my thing, but they often fall flat or aren't immersive enough, and I'm not up for a full rpg, but people, ER was fun! Can't wait to jump back in
What about narrative setups at the start of rulebooks? Which reminds me of one my favourite ever totally unnecessarily over the top rulebook introductions....
Finally nabbed a game I had such silly, ridiculous fun playing with the likes of @thingsgetdicey.bsky.social @grantsgamerecs.bsky.social @panda8ngel.bsky.social @crystaldax.bsky.social and more a couple of years ago! This is basically what if Secret H****r but Love Island
Is there a term for when you play a game twice, approximately 8 years apart, and end up making the same strategic blunder both times? 😅
I've not played many games lately which is why I've been quiet, but I did get to try Feya's Swamp recently with @moregamesplease.com and friends. It's a great new take on Terra Mystica with a much more engaging style, and an action/points cycle I couldn't quite get ny head round 1st play!
This was actually a couple of weeks ago, but here's a peek at most of my collection of characters for Unmatched. If you had to choose one to play in tournament, who would it be?
What's the point of having a gaming get together in an old English manor if you can't get a couple of family group pictures from one of your favourite game systems? Unmatched by @restorationgames.bsky.social
This weekend I turned a big age (🫠) and celebrated by inviting my loveliest, nerdiest friends to a big manor and filling it with food, drunk and most importantly of all; board games. I even hosted a mini tournament for my favourite game Unmatched! (I came 3rd!) I feel happy and loved ❤️
