End of day 2! Added two more sections. Gotta add more tomorrow, then do music and bug fixing.
Some more #GMTKJam progress. Main loop is essentially there, which means I get to focus on content now!
End of the first day! Drastically rescoping the game, but really enjoying the process. Trying to reduce the amount of things I second guess.
Got to meet an all time hero yesterday at Develop! @gamemakerstoolkit.com A genuinely nice and super friendly person. The work he's done for the game dev education scene (for free!) is huge, and I learned so much from his videos. And his game jams are my favourite!
Here's a 3-hit combo sketch from last year I found in the dusty corners of my hard drive. Spent a few hours this bank holiday cleaning it up. I don't have the time and motivation to take this into spline and polish, but it's still got some interesting bits that deserves to see the light of day.
went to my first games industry event (Guildford Games) yesterday as someone in the games industry. felt pretty cool. saw some familiar faces, spoke to a lot of students, talked a lot about games. life is good and I am very lucky!
I love this sculpture in Guildford by Allan Sly. It accurately represents how I feel as a junior in game dev working on my first game - I'm learning a LOT.
Got @apwot.bsky.social issue #1 in the mail today. It's a beautifully made product and I CANNOT wait to go through it.
Okay after sleeping on it and trying again in the morning with some good music going, skinning is proving to be very relaxing and almost meditative??? I love ngskintools. look at that hip crease!
To be fair, I'm still only on the spinal column and hips - I know the shoulders and knees will be a whole thing on its own. We'll see! There's an awesome presentation from the devs of Guilty Gear Xrd that I've been referencing, alongside some cool ROM reference from www.bodiesinmotion.photo
My phone didn't save the proper photo I took of tonight's event, but three of us showed up with the same weird mouse 😁
Last month's event (pictured) was a great time. Indie game dev can be quite a lonely path to walk down if you let it, so its great to always see people in person!
Finally taking the time to learn how to properly rig a character. I'm starting to understand Maya and 3D at a level much closer to the actual data of the scene, not just relying on what's in the viewport.
Watched Steve two nights ago - an incredibly moving, authentic and well written film with killer music that brought me to tears. Highly, highly recommended.
dug my very first ball bounce up, from almost two years ago when I'd never animated in 3D properly before! it feels so good to look back and see how far you've come sometimes
over the years this picture has become increasingly more and more useful for me
final scores for our GMTK submission! didn't think we'd break top 1000 in anything, let alone top 100! super stoked!
the SPARKies was fun! I got a bunch of people to test my game last night! always results in a LOT of good feedback. now to implement! I also got some kind words which is always encouraging! thanks to everyone who stopped by the booth last night!
