Montreal software-makin' videogame-creatin' singy-geetar-y puppetistical artfellah. Toujours antifasciste. Be unrelentingly honest and kind and everything else takes care of itself. Over the course of many incarnations.
Just learned there’s going to be a sequel to Labyrinth, with Robert Eggers directing. Fingers crossed the cast St Vincent as the Goblin Queen. I can’t think of anyone else who could out-Bowie Bowie in such a role.
The entire Louis Cole band - including Louis and Genevieve! - gradually re-coalesced at Le Balcon to play with Chiquita Magic shortly after midnight. Three more hours! Didn't end until 3:10am. Ecstatic stuff!
Walked past this cat earlier who was being relentlessly taunted by an insouciant pigeon which kept landing a few feet away, waiting for the cat to chase after it, then flying up out of reach, looking amused and pleased with itself. The cat, meanwhile, was very much neither amused nor pleased.
BBC out here casually presenting a fake AI version of Agatha Christie as a writing teacher in their Maestro series. Oh but it's not ethically monstrous because her great grandson approves of it. I'm a year late being annoyed by this - it debuted a year ago - but I only just encountered it today.
Cronenbergian samosas on this poster I walked by on Beaubien earlier today.
If I had to pick one word to describe Montreal's metro stations I might go with "exuberance".
This skeet could be successfully adapted into a series of hallucinatorially brilliant films, I feel.
Making random quick scribbly squiggly art with whatever materials you have on hand and without overthinking it or judging it or yourself and then sticking it up on your wall is superfun and good and you should do it.
While the world at large continues its plummet into the not-fun kind of lunacy I'm holed up here in my li'l studio in Montreal teaching myself how to design and build puppets. Have been gathering materials and tutorials. I'll be starting building in earnest next weekend. Woo!
Saw this plaque while walking around downtown Montreal yesterday. It commemorates the 10th anniversary of 9/11 and reaffirms Quebec's solidarity with the American people. Truly incredible that 15 years later the US is now a former ally that we have to defend ourselves against.
I walked along Rue Notre Dame here in Montreal earlier today and passed by three separate establishments that had gone out of business recently due to fires. That seems like an oddly high number of business-ending conflagrations for a half kilometre long stretch of a major downtown street.
I dunno - propitiating the blood gods with a mass burnt offering of death and carnage to entice them to grant your elderly corporeal form continued life and further aid your consolidation of authoritarian power and your bloodline's corrupt accumulation of wealth all seems like a strategy to me.
What in heck is going on with this Canadian Armed Forces facebook ad campaign? Yes I know Canada is still officially, unfortunately, a monarchy. But we're not a dang medieval feudal monarchy. Also is it just me or is this giving white supremacist vibes? It feels the same as US fash gov X posts.
Hey check out the sweet-ass graffiti / art installation on this abandoned building at the corner of Saint-Dominique and Marie-Anne here in Montreal -
A brilliantly conceived, written, designed, and performed portrait of the type of pure, bred in the bone, ruthlessly ambitious psychopath that thrives in a genocidal authoritarian regime.
Like... The Globe and Mail, Canada's most restrained, establishment newspaper, ran two opinion pieces this week asserting that we have to start preparing to defend ourselves against an American war of aggression and conquest.
Also you can report X on the Apple app store. I just submitted a report flagging it as a platform for the generation and distribution of child sexual abuse material.
Montreal has a special designated island just for gross boys and I think that's neat.
CEO selling human replacement machines expresses surprise and confusion that actual humans are unimpressed and repulsed by his human replacement machines.
Lights All Askew In The Heavens would also be an excellent alt-country folk-rock band name. As would More Or Less Agog. And also Men Of Science. Dang these old timey newspaper headers are a goldmine for band names!
A Dostoyevsky excerpt that sums up America under Trump. A nation of brutal, bestial, loveless liars.
Chillaxin in the new art studio here in Montreal. Moved all my current art & work stuff in on Wednesday. Lots o' unpacking and setup still to do! Gonna create a whole lotta Art all up in here, including finishing the video game that I've been workin on.
Per his older sister, America's modern Goebbels-Goering hybrid was once a sweet little kid obsessed with Ghostbusters and Michael Jackson.
Another critically important point. No bargaining with fascists. First fight them with every non-violent means available. If that fails, well; history is chock full of graphic examples of the next necessary steps.
One of THE most important points in defeating fascism. Which we're going to do, collectively, as a species. We've done it before; we're in the process of getting it together to do it again, vastly more comprehensively this time.
Montreal often has skies that make me feel like I'm looking at one giant transgender pride flag.
Today I learned that the French title of the 1991 film "Don't Tell Mom The Babysitter's Dead" is "Faut pas dire à Maman que la Gardienne mange les Pissenlits par les Racines", which translates as "Don't Tell Mom That the Guardian Eats Dandelions by the Roots".
Trying to cram in as many open mic nights here in Montreal as possible before that all kicks off while continuing to hope that somehow miraculously it doesn't all kick off.
I am so down for this! I Am Not Your Negro was incredible, and Exterminate All The Brutes was life changing. Raoul Peck's work should be part of the core curriculum in public schools the world over.
