An Extreme Heat Watch is in place for Sunday and Monday as the peak heat index each afternoon is expected to rise into the 100-110° range across central Iowa. We'll likely see this translate into a Warning in the next 24 hours. Looking like a sweltering couple of days!

Heat Advisory is in place for Saturday afternoon over portions of western Iowa as the heat index rises 95-100° as afternoon sun takes over. Still hotter conditions are expected on Sunday.

72 tornadoes in Iowa, but that number is holding steady for now, even after Monday's storms. The US total continues to rise, now over 1000 confirmed tornadoes across the country. Illinois leads the charge for individual states with 180! 39 states have seen a tornado this year. #IAWX

A very un-July-like day for Friday. Gray, cool and at times, damp. A few light showers move through late tonight into Friday. Generally light, a couple heavier amounts hug the Missouri border. Highs will be in the low to mid 70s, slightly warmer in northern Iowa with the help of sunshine.

Some like it hot, some don't. If you're sick of temps reaching the 90s we'll find that relief by the middle of next week as high temperatures return close to typical levels. The long range, days 6-10, also hint at things remaining fairly typical to mid-July levels. #IAWX

Another heat dome is back. It'll push temps into the 90s, but ultimately the humidity levels fail to rise leaving the heat index only marginally higher... only by a couple degrees.

Storms form in the north and push south. With time, they'll lose a little bit of steam as the night progresses. Level 1 and 2 Risks of Severe Weather seem appropriately placed. Watch for spots of damaging wind potential. Also some heavy rain to keep an eye on for Wednesday evening and overnight.

Flooding from Fourmile Creek shown just east of I35 at 1st St. in Ankeny, IA. Emergency crews are present along Creekview Dr with high water in the area. Stay out of flooded areas as Fourmile Creek is still very volitle right now as water works its way south.

Heat index of 97 to 105° will be common each of the next three afternoons. Eastern Iowa may push beyond 105°. Cooler in the NW. Take care of yourself, drink water and listen to your body. Lots of hot days ahead!

Hot and Humid. That's the name of the game across Iowa beginning Sunday and stretching through most (if not all) of next week. Heat index will commonly be found running 100-107° across central Iowa each afternoon Sunday through Wednesday and probably beyond. #IAWX
