Ex Soldier, Firefigher, Teacher and most recently Plumber. Now just taking the slow way round. Interested in climate campaigning, space/science nerd, rugby, cricket, music, playing ukulele down the pub, making things. Glad to meet you here.
Halfway up a mountain in the Pyranees. The reassuring click from the camera and the Smartscope . . . smarting? The pressure is off and I can relax and enjoy the show. #Eclipse
Moon over N Spain 5 am this morning. I know what you are up to you eclipsey little bugger.
The Western horizon from a ferry in the Bay of Biscay. The clouds this evening are quite thick but the forecast for Wednesday is better. #Eclipse
My first try for a Solar time-lapse in advance of the #eclipse next week. I hope there are fewer clouds in N Spain. #FingersCrossed
That was an exciting round. Tough luck to the Guildhall team tonight. 110 for me. Happy with that :-) #UniversityChallenge
Cloudy in #Walthamstow tonight. 14 days until the new Moon and total solar eclipse. I have spent quite a bit on a trip to N Spain and am a bit worried if it will pan out OK. It's just a holiday and I haven't had my house burnt down . . . I could bail and go to Cornwall for 96% or go for it ??
Another ton for me tonight despite being bitterly disappointed not to get any of the cricket fielding positions. Happy with that :-) #UniversityChallenge
It seems a bit early on in the competition to see a Durham v Manchester showdown. 🤔 A big haul of bonuses brings my score up to a healthy 125 tonight. Happy with that! #UniversityChallenge
Yay! #QuizzyMonday is back. The first round goes to Imperial, on paper the favourites. Aced the music round so I get a century to kick off my scoresheet. Happy with that. #UniversityChallenge
40 degrees in my south-facing garden this afternoon. That sensor is totally in the shade too. #Heatwave
I will be just North West of Pamplona with my rig. Cannon EOS T2i, Sigma 600mm lens with also homemade Baader solar filter, Skywatcher Star adventurer EQ mount and Seestar S30 pro smart scope. I hope to get to a really dark sky for the perseids meteor shower the next night to.
Slightly hazy clouds last night but managed to get 1hr 45mins of data of M51, The Whirlpool Galaxy. Happy with that
Due to being a bit squiffy and incompetent. I did not take anything capable of getting the moon, Jupiter and Venus in one shot when I went out tonight. However the moon was lovely on her own.
Currently knee deep in #BluePeter make and do with glue, a cardboard tube, some special film from off the Internet. I then intend to pop this onto the front of my 600mm telephoto lens on my posh camera and point it directly at the Sun!!! What can go wrong?
2 for 1 today. M81 & M82, Bode's Galaxy and the Cigar Galaxy, both 12M light years away from my back garden in East London. This time I stacked and processed the image manually on my laptop (I don't know what I am doing yet) and the results were far better than the telescope image. Happy with that!
There was a bit of clear sky last night and I managed to get two hours on the M3 star cluster. This is the image straight off the telescope with no post processing at all. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Messier_3
First light on my new telescope. Our Sun is remarkably peacefully this morning. I cobbled a leveling platform from a chopping board and bolts. The telescope did the rest. A stacked image from a 60 video, all done inside the app. Happy with that! 😃
I started to tackle the weeds in the raised beds today (why did I let it get so bad?). I seem to have over-wintered 3 spring onions!!
I only had two predictions for tonight. Manchester for the win. Madgwick would buzz himself clean out of his chair. They will both carry over for the final next week. Only 30 for me tonight, I think I would have gotten a few more but Mdgwick was too quick on the button. #UniversityChallenge
50 for me tonight. That is probably all I can expect for a semi final. Well done Edingburgh, a solid all team performance. #UniversityChallenge
70 for me tonight. A blend of inspired guesses and blurting out a random Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle for a 5/4 Starter/Bonus ratio. Happy with that. #UniversityChallenge
My sign for the #EveryoneDay march in #London this afternoon. Fighting #Facsists everywhere.
Madgwick will press that button clear through the desk one day, (he is quick on it though) Manchester, being one of my picks for the final, put down another solid performance. 70 for me tonight and Thomas Hobbes in the Klaxon for the win!! #UniversityChallenge #UniversityChallengeKlaxon
I have no idea where we are in the competition anymore. 80 for me tonight, happy with that. #UniversityChallenge
Was it just me or did this week have a lot of questions about mathematicians? 65 for me tonight, happy with that. #UniversityChallenge
Blimey, that was exciting! Tough luck on UCL and congrats to Manchester. Madgwick needs to look at his button technique or he will do himself an injury. 85 for me . . . Happy with that. #UniversityChallenge
I can't quite keep up with where we are at during this point in the quiz. Nevermind though, I managed to scraped a century with a lucky guesses at "1840s". Happy with that #UniversityChallenge
