Thank you to Supervisor Lynda Hopkins for joining us at our town hall in Monte Rio today!
Spent some time this afternoon with Chairman Davis and the Hoopa Valley Tribal council at their annual Sovereign's Day celebration. Each year the tribe comes together to celebrate their sovereignty and homelands.
Learning more about timber practices and restoration work along the north fork of the Elk River. Thanks to Cal Forest for organizing the trip. Any day we end up in a forest is a great day.
Leg lifts look way different these days - now I’m a pretend piece of construction equipment for my toddler.
Celebrating the Save the Redwoods League’s transfer of 125 acres of land in the heart of Yurok ancestral territory back to the Yurok Tribe through an agreement that prioritizes tribal land management practices, creates a new public space and permanently protects critical salmon habitat.
Kicking off Rio Dell’s Wildwoods with Mayor Garnes and Mayor Pro Tem Carter - watching the Firemen’s Muster, where local departments compete to attach hoses and knock down cone targets the fastest. First place was Loleta, followed closely by Rio Grand and Cal Fire.
Out with Chairman Moorehead today to hear about critical projects that the Big Lagoon Rancheria has been focused on, followed by another town hall in Ferndale.
What’s up, Weaverville! Spent two hours at our town hall today answering questions and listening to concerns from Trinity County constituents. From data centers, to healthcare, to protecting our elections, folks had some great suggestions and I enjoyed the back and forth.
Thank you to Supervisor Leutwyler and the incredible Fountain Ranch for inviting us to Salyer today for their leadership summit. Great community stories on organizational resilience, land management, and community building.
At the PAC 6 Leadership conference in Little River this morning - joined my colleague Damon Connolly in discussing education issues with our region’s Superintendents and County education leaders.
Started our day with a town hall in Gualala, and book ended it with a town hall in Windsor. In Gualala, the main topic was healthcare - especially the challenges on the Mendonoma coast. In Windsor, it was affordable housing and state mandates.
Joined Tom Moore from Center for American Progress and statewide leaders from Indivisible California to discuss AB 1984 - ending unlimited spending in elections. Hawaii just passed substantively similar legislation (nearly unanimously) and Montana is expected to do so at the ballot box this November
Yesterday, our team rafted the iron gate run along the Klamath, seeing two years of progress since the dams came down. Incredibly grateful to the Karuk for hosting us and their partnership on the Good Fire Act. Three days after the dams came down, fall run salmon returned home.
He may look like me, but Sarah’s Scottish roots run deep! First day of little kickers - way better than the World Cup!
Celebrating the semiquincentennial of our independence at the 100th Willits Frontier Days parade. Walking with Supervisor John Haschak!
Three more bills moving forward to Senate appropriations: ✅ AB 2494 - updating the management principles of the state demonstration forests. ✅ AB 1811 - re-designating “health professional shortage areas” that prioritize health resources in rural communities.
Busy day in committees: ✅ AB 1699 - the Good Fire Act, which will expand the use of beneficial/prescribed fire in California 🔥 ✅ AB 1761 - which will bring greater transparency to the PCIA charged by investor owned utilities
Does this count as indoctrination? Sarah taught Ellis the chant of her people - Scotland’s “no Scotland, no party” World Cup chant.
Honoring Sonoma County Superintendent Amie Carter, on the Assembly floor for this year’s LGBTQ Pride Recognition ceremony
Spent the day with Supervisor Haschak in Covelo. Community town hall, Juneteenth celebration, farmers market, and then seeing the Covelo bridge that collapsed last week.
Spent the morning at a town hall with Parent Voices, Sonoma County chapter - listening to stories from local childcare providers and parents (like me and Sarah) who need childcare to be able to work.
Reunited with some of the incredible staff at the City of Santa Rosa and Sonoma Water for today’s Select Committee on Wildfire Prevention. Good discussion with Assemblymember Damon Connolly about lessons learned and how to export the incredible knowledge these teams have to other areas of the state.
Closing out the California Outdoor Recreation Summit in Eureka, talking about the potential for north coast eco tourism and recreation based economies. The Great Redwood Trail was in the house!
Spent the morning speaking to the upward bound students at Del Norte High School - good discussion about housing, gas prices, data centers, grizzly bears, Antifa, and the impacts of social media on our youth.
Chugga chugga TWO TWO. Not to brag, but Sarah and I have managed to keep this little guy alive for two whole years.
