Celebrating and empowering gay men through spiritual liberation and the joy of sexual freedom. Join us in honoring our rich legacy, rejecting heteronormativity and embracing a life of limitless gay potential!
Gay men have contributed immeasurably to art, literature, politics, design, and history. Our culture is strong, resilient, and worth celebrating on its own terms.
The real horror in this film is how the adults who are supposed to protect our youth fail to do so, instead causing them so much harm.
David Hockney, one of our greatest talents, has died today. But his words and works will continue to inspire. Thank you for all you did, Mr. Hockney.
Happy Harvey Milk Day! Thinking about Harvey reminds me of the sacrifices our gay ancestors made so we could have better lives. Honor them by knowing their stories.
Our beautiful ancestor Sal Mineo was the model for the stunning painting "The New Adam" by Harold Stevenson.
From Mike Curato's beautiful, entertaining and insightful book "Gaysians." Highly recommend!
Saw #BrokebackMountain on the big screen for the 20th anniv. Still hits hard! That undeniable love & haunting blood-stained shirts! It pushed gay film mainstream. Tho I have issues w straight actors playing gay roles, Heath/Jake's talents helped us see more gay representation. Profound then and now.
We honor Harvey Milk, a true American hero. A Navy vet, Harvey continued his service in politics, becoming one of the 1st openly gay elected officials. He inspired many to live full gay lives +fight for justice. His legacy reminds us that fighting for what's right is the truest form of patriotism.
Brokeback Mountain is back in the theaters for a 20th anniversary limited release. Did you see it 20 years ago on the big screen? Did you see it later? What did it mean to you then? What does it mean to you now? #brokebackmountain #gayfilm
I come from fear, silence + limits—but I do not carry them forward. I saw early that I'm different. That difference saved me. Being gay showed me truth is more important than comfort, freedom more sacred than approval. I live not in reaction to where I've been but in celebration of where I'm going.
Whereas the old religions struggle to reconcile 2000+ year old text, our artists are constantly offering us stories that inform our lives, expand our perceptions, and nourish our hearts. "A Nice Indian Boy" is a beautiful example of storytelling that reflects our lives and light. #ANiceIndianBoy
Church Value 6: Pursue Knowledge and Education Learn about our gay history and culture. Understand the stories of those who came before us, the struggles we’ve faced, and the victories we’ve won. Knowing where we come from gives us the strength and clarity to know where we’re going.
Church Value 5: Celebrate Creativity and Arts! Art is a cornerstone of who we are. Whether it’s painting, writing, performing or simply appreciating, gay art tells our stories + preserves our history. Support it. Celebrate it.
Church Value 4: Honor Our Ancestors! Our gay ancestors fought for us to have powerful gay lives. Learn their stories, honor their sacrifices, and let their courage inspire you! Praise them with gratitude, and carry their legacy forward by building a brighter future.
Watching Saturday Night Live's 50th anniversary celebration makes me think of the show's first out gay cast member Terry Sweeney. The talented Mr. Sweeney joined the cast in 1985 when there were nearly no gay people on TV. He's still remembered for his brilliant skewering of first lady Nancy Reagan.
Church Value 3: Support Community and Brotherhood! We’re stronger together. Be there for your gay brothers—love them, support them, lift them up. Build a compassionate community where we all thrive, especially those who need help. When we strengthen each other, we strengthen ourselves.
Church Value 2: Explore Your Sacred Sexuality: Acknowledge, embrace and share the spiritual and transformative power of your sexuality. Reject toxic shame and puritanism to open yourself to erotic truth. Love your cock and the joy, strength and drive it gives you.
Church Value 1: Embrace Your Divine Gay Identity Being gay is a profound, divine gift. Live authentically and unapologetically, reject heteronormativity and embrace the unique joy of being gay without compromise.
The Church of Gay Power rejects societal poisons like homophobia, bigotry, and puritanical norms. We use resilience, empowerment, and love to advocate for gay men’s liberation, sexual freedom and dignity!
The Church of Gay Power is a non-theist philosophy, rooted in human connection, ancestral wisdom, and the sacredness of sexuality. We reject outdated religious myths to build a new spiritual framework that celebrates the human experience for gay men.
Instead of looking outward for approval or divine worth, we should see our sexuality and humanity as sacred in and of itself.
“Sooner or later, we have to venture beyond our biological family to find our logical one, the one that actually makes sense for us.” —Armistead Maupin
The gay community is not the crowd at the trendiest bars in the big cities. The gay community is what WE make it. The gay community is YOU! So let's make it loving, supportive and kind.
Why do we need a church for and about gay people? Because the old religions seek to damage us. Because we want to be good people and have good lives. And because we deserve it.
How can I be a better homosexual? I can support other gay people. Be kind. Be understanding. Give the benefit of the doubt. Let's listen to each other and help as we can.
