The 2 most recent novels I've read are BLACK BAG by my fab colleague @lukekennard.bsky.social and WOODWORKING by not-colleague @emilystjams.bsky.social. While VERY different, they're both about how gender is beautiful and weird and can make people crazy. Strong rec for both!

Rabbit tax and a confession: this is Gizmo, he's 11 years old! He came from a shop and is a hutch rabbit who gets lots of free roaming outside of the (roomy) hutch. I have messy feelings about it: he's a happy, healthy bun but I'd have made different choices if I were starting from scratch.

A very naughty brown and white rabbit is standing up on its hind legs in order to munch the leaves of a tall Brussel sprouts plant in a blue plant pot.

I've not seen this one mentioned yet, so shout out to one of Tom Noonan's lesser-known roles: Frankenstein's Monster in The Monster Squad (1987). He cites Karloff's childlike vulnerability, but he also gets to say 'Bogus' while impaling Dracula on an iron spike. Peak children's horror cinema.

Noon as the monster closely resembles Karloff in the 1931 film. He's tall with pale green skin and scars/stitches on his face. He's wearing a shabby black suit and holding the hand of a little white girl in a red dress.

I've been staying in cheap motel rooms in the South Island of New Zealand all week, all of which are bigger, more comfortable and with better hospitality than nearly any chain hotel of equivalent price I've stayed at in the UK. And the scenery is off the charts.

I have read the article in question (link in comments of the QT) and just want to point and laugh at this para, which implies with a straight face that men are being discriminated against, without acknowledging that men are statistically more likely to apply for jobs they are underqualified for.

To give a sense of what this meant on the ground: In 2022, there were 728 applicants to tenure-track jobs in the humanities at Brown, 55 percent of whom were men. At every stage of the process the male share was whittled down. The long list was 48 percent male, the short list 42 percent. Only 34 percent of candidates who made it to the interview round were male—and only 29 percent of the jobs were ultimately offered to men. A similar dynamic played out in the social sciences: 54 percent of the 722 applicants were men; 44 percent of the shortlist was male, and just 32 percent of job offers were tendered to men; in the physical sciences, women were 23 percent of applicants, but received 42 percent of job offers.

Using one photo already on your phone, what is the announcement today at 2

So you know my sister is a veterinary student

She said a little girl brought her hamster in bc it hadn't moved for 3 days and was just sat at the side of the cage and wouldn't eat or drink or anything

So she asked her if anything had happened that may have caused it, the girl says yeah he escaped for a bit but we found him under the fridge

So they have a look at this hamster, put him on the table and he's walking round, eating & drinking etc. All fine

Which is really weird

Then they notice there's something in his cheek pouch

So they look inside, and find a fridge magnet

Turns out the only thing wrong with this hamster is that it had a fridge magnet in his cheek pouch and was stuck to his metal cage
