Despicable characters, a batshit Filippou script, a throbbing score, a glorious mediterranean sheen, Karim Aïnouz's tragicomic family thriller Rosebush Pruning is an absurd yet oddly entertaining 'eat the rich' satire to spit, not swallow. Somebody give Lukas Gage a leading role. Sickcession.
Director Olivia Wilde welcomes us into a phenomonal four-hander with her latest piece, The Invite. Old-fashioned in its stylish Allen-esque design and yet wickedly relevant in its playful probing of contemporary relationships. Incredibly funny and quietly moving. The score is sublime. What a film!

Emily Blunt & Josh O’Connor elevate sci-fi thriller Disclosure Day, Steven Spielberg’s latest imagining of extraterrestrial contact. It’s Nolan-esque in its convoluted storytelling but stays true to the director’s signature sense of wonder. The score typically swells. The final act is cinema magic.
It might look like another glossy Netflix romcom but Office Romance has a script packed with tired transatlantic “humour” & dick jokes that could’ve been left for the next Austin Powers sequel. Tonally this is all over the place and it’s romantic leads go together like cottage pie & pancakes.

With a vibrant style and cool indie soundtrack, there’s a real passion for Manchester in Alicia MacDonald’s charming rom-com Finding Emily. Its story has the comforting, familiar rhythm of a Richard Curtis classic and yet it feels very contemporary in its storytelling. Fearn & Rice are fantastic 🐝

Full of mystery, jump-scares, and nastiness, Damian McCarthy's folk-horror tale Hokum follows a cynical American author who retreats to a creepy guest house in Ireland to finish his latest novel. Is the hotel actually haunted or is it the writer himself? A great genre piece & genuinely unnerving!

Evolving from magazine spreads to digital content, legacy sequel The Devil Wears Prada 2 is just as glossy as its iconic original. It’s refreshing to see women defined by their ambition rather than family and behind all the fun quips, it puts a stylish nail in the coffin of contemporary journalism.

A solid directorial debut from James McAvoy, comedy drama California Schemin’ adapts an amazing true story of two wannabe rappers from Dundee. The Council Est-8 Mile rise & fall narrative can sometimes feel a little too familiar, but it’s crafted with patriotic passion and bags of Scottish humour.
Based on a 2017 novel, Polly Findlay's gentle drama Midwinter Break follows a long-retired couple on a city break to Amsterdam. It's wholesome and tender, but reflective themes around love, faith, and unresolved trauma slowly rise from the picturesque canals. Manville & Hinds are remarkable.

Fusing all the elements of the sci-fi genre into a goofy 'buddy movie', Lord & Miller's ambitious adaptation of Andy Weir's novel is packed with cinematic passion. Project Hail Mary shoots for the stars and thanks to Ryan Gosling's charm, charisma, and physical comedy flair, it sticks the landing.
