We are a community of parents, healthcare workers, teachers, students and individuals who care about improving indoor air quality
Thanks to the holiday maker who returned from their trip to France during peak travel season, & shared these terrific CO2 readings with us. These exceptional CO2 readings were taken in the public spaces on board @brittanyferries.bsky.social Cotentin and are readings they can be proud of!
Did you hear the good news? A recent landmark study has reported an amazing development demonstrating the real-world impacts clean air can have on people's lives. www.qmul.ac.uk/news/latest-...
Thanks to an #AirAware member of the public in Cork City for submitting this video to us today, comparing outdoor PM2.5 levels to the PM2.5 levels in their home where they already practice air hygiene with HEPA air filters.
We celebrate @goaqs.bsky.social plan for Schools which is a global intervention to transform school environments from passive shelters to active health-protective zones. This strategy is based on stringent air quality standards being maintained at levels that protect the most Clinically Vulnerable.
Huge congratulations to students & staff in Scoil Naomh Bríd in Muff, Co. Donegal on being the first school in Ireland to pilot the introduction of air filters in every classroom. It is inspiring to see what is possible when community leaders work together to make this pioneering vision a reality.
As the world marked International Workers' Day on the 1st May, this article (www.irishtimes.com/health/your-... ) is a timely reminder of how poorly workers around the world and at home have been treated since the advent of SARS-CoV-2.
Great to see Dr. Ciara Steele's letter published today about the clean air interventions that should be done systematically across healthcare settings, schools & public indoor spaces. www.irishtimes.com/opinion/lett...
Have you ever wondered how clean the air is in a GP clinic? This comes in from a GP clinic where air quality is taken very seriously. It is great to see such excellent air quality in a space where people go when they're most vulnerable due to illness, infection or injury. #FridayAirday #CleanTheAir
This exemplary CO2 monitor reading comes in from someone travelling through Dublin Airport who found that the ventilation was quite excellent in the lounge past the US pre-clearance hall. This is really positive to see. #FridayAirday
It was such a privilege and so refreshing to attend a conference and workshop dedicated to the topic of clean air in classrooms and to actually experience excellent air quality while doing so. Thanks to the organisers @ucc.ie for hosting the event.
Really looking forward to this event taking place in University College Cork next week! Open to teachers, parents, researchers and school leaders. #CleanTheAir #VentilationInEducation
Clean Air Advocacy Ireland supports #WorldTBDay. Tuberculosis prevention is not just about treatment. It is also about the air people breathe. Air pollution increases susceptibility to respiratory infections, worsening lung inflammation and affecting recovery outcomes.
This Long Covid Awareness Day it is important to remember that Ireland remains among a small number of EU Member States that have not formally recognised Covid-19 as an occupational disease or injury, contrary to recommendations from the European Commission and the International Labour Organisation.
If you've ever wondered how cooking impacts the air quality in your kitchen, these two submissions for #FridayAirday both show how cooking dinner raises PM2.5 levels. The first image shows a significant rise in PM2.5 up to 262 µg/m³ and was taken in a kitchen using a gas hob.
Our public health systems and healthcare workers have access to the same medical and scientific evidence base as Olympians and astronauts. Respirators are a totally genius invention and should be celebrated and promoted, not disregarded by our health system. www.independent.ie/opinion/comm...
CAAI were very happy to be invited to @uniofgalway.bsky.social Postgrads & Sustainability Showcase hosted by the Students Union. This #FridayAirday features great CO2 readings from a lecture room in the University. #SustainableDevelopmentGoals #CleanAir
Really positive to see indications of such good air quality in a public building, based on these relatively low CO2 readings of 710ppm. Now, for more public institutions like schools, hospitals & other workplaces to get the same treatment afforded to our public representatives! #CleanAir #Speirgorm
It was very sobering to learn from the speakers about how detrimental poor air quality is to public health and, how poor air quality disproportionately impacts economically deprived communities and is responsible for ~1700 lives lost prematurely each year.
Congratulations to all the authors and organisations involved in the Climate and Health Alliance on the successful launch of their 'Clean Air, Healthier Ireland' position paper that took place in the Oireachtas yesterday. We were honoured to be invited to support this great initiative. #CleanAir
Many people hate going to the dentist, but indoor air quality may not be the most common reason. Unfortunately, not all dental practices are created equal. This Aranet CO2 sensor reading comes into us this #FridayAirday from someone who attended a dentist appointment.
Another day in the life of a teacher in Ireland. This comes in from a teacher who was supervising exams for students. Exams were from 9am - 10.30 am and then from 11am -12pm. Lunch in the staffroom was from 12pm -1pm. After lunch they were on call for exams and not dedicated to any one class.
Have you ever wondered HOW to achieve a healthy classroom environment? We're very grateful to Dr. Asit Kumar Mishra, Research Fellow at the School of Public Health, UCC, for creating this really helpful depiction of steps that can be taken to create healthy environments in classrooms. #CleanAir
It's so refreshingly positive to see the introduction of @smartairfilters.bsky.social filters to schools be celebrated by local media & politicians. We are so grateful to Dr. Ciara Steele for taking time to educate students, staff & local politicians in her community about the importance of IAQ.
The flu has claimed 181 lives so far this winter. The INMO counted ~700 people on trolleys yesterday morning and ~ 2,108 patients on trolleys since Tuesday morning. Phil Ní Sheaghdha, INMO GS has said that, “Each hospital is now over 100% capacity, well over the recommended 85pc occupancy rate".
Dr. Steele is working tirelessly in her community to educate the public on the health and learning benefits of introducing HEPA filters into our indoor environments; as well as the importance of monitoring indoor air quality & opening windows when CO2/ PM2.5 levels rise above recommended levels.
Dr. Ciara Steele of CAAI was at the official delivery of HEPA filters generously donated by @smartairfilters.bsky.social to the students and staff at Scoil Naomh Bríd & iCare in Buncrana. As can be seen, the room is unfortunately not well ventilated. Windows were opened once air monitors were on.
Have you ever wondered why it's pretty typical to get sick after a night out at a packed gig? This #FridayAirday submission comes in from someone who attended a gig in a popular Dublin City Centre entertainment venue a few weeks ago.
This is a #FridayAirday CO2 reading from a busy bookshop. The high reading of 2815ppm is indicative of very poor ventilation. This is representative of many retail settings and a good reminder that wearing a well fitting respirator in shops is a good idea to avoid catching/spreading infections.
We've been receiving photos of air quality measurements from members of the public for #FridayAirday . This image is from someone who was frying a steak on a gas hob. Frying is the method of cooking most likely to produce particulate matter.
Dr. Ciara Steele, GP, CAAI representative and clinical researcher on PEACE-Air, an SEUPB funded PEACEPLUS project, attended the project launch in Letterkenny on Friday. We are so proud of her flying the flag for clean air, and healthy indoor air in particular. #PublicHealth #CleanAirHumanRight
