I have—and enjoy owning these works! but confess I pick them up and read pages at random—I’m not studied in philosophy, have no other Stoic books, don’t have any context—I just enjoy him! I’ve got a feeling Wilson will tear him down a bit for me, but hoping in a horizon-broadening way 😅

I enjoyed it—a subject matter *expert* commenting (frankly) on what had been left on the cutting room floor. I haven’t read much of her non-fiction before—after that review, I got her book on Seneca in the hopes she’ll be just as frank and direct.

ARCADIA: LAPD SWAT will conduct training at Santa Anita Park near Gates 5 & 6. This training will take place from 8:30 p.m. to 2 a.m. and will include helicopters & police personnel in the area. There is no threat to the public and no action is required, according to Arcadia PD.

This was from a recent podcast on how we anthropomorphize humanoid robots—this warning of how comparing machines to humans only brings us *down* to their level struck me techwontsave.us/episode/316_...

I'm one of these people who is very anti-robot rights, as it were, because I believe it's essentially a degradation of human rights. It doesn't elevate robots to the same status as humans, it degrades humans to the same status as robots. I think we should always, when we're looking at these machines, treat them as what they are, which is avatars of capital.

You're not being nice to a conscious being if you help a robot cross the street, you are helping capital in some way. I think we're very susceptible to being manipulated, for the same reason that I've talked about over exaggerations of capability. We see a human form and we start treating it like a human.
