Enhanced Weathering preprints are also becoming a meaningful part of the EW pipeline: 51 of 382 peer-reviewed terrestrial EW papers (13%) had a preprint. Of 97 preprints, 53% are now published—but lag matters: 80% through 2024 are published, vs 57% from 2025 and 12% from 2026.
Enhanced weathering publications are growing exponentially. Based on our just-updated literature list (doi.org/10.5281/zeno...), for peer-reviewed terrestrial EW papers, the estimated doubling time is ~2.8 years (R² = 0.92). Outside formal peer review, growth is even faster: ~1.3 years (R² = 0.88).

Our new paper shows that soil cation exchange can delay CO₂ removal from enhanced weathering by years to decades. Lag varies by soil, climate, and land use—longest in high-CEC regions like the Corn Belt. Big implications for MRV, credit timing, and deployment strategy. Timing matters! 🪨🌾 Link below.

Loads of new followers recently, so want introduce myself again. I investigate the potentials and limitations of using natural processes (like the weathering of rocks) to remove more CO2 from the atmosphere, and how we can quantify how well that actually works. That is also what I post about 🙃
