Still waiting for usb c plugs to make a keychain adapter for Le’Fob (or whatever really). Working name is USB Dickey. Really happy how the ENIG branding turned out. We’ll see if it and Le’Fob will hold up on my keychain.

100 tiny black and gold PCBs most of which is taken up by a ~4mm plated thru hole flanked by an edge clamp usb c footprint and “vdbx.io” arched over the hole also in gold. There is no white silkscreen

Key-gle got me reinvigorated in an old idea. Behold: Le’Fob - a bluetooth/2.4ghz universal fob. I ended up ordering a resin printer after these tests. I’m thinking the default config is just 4 BTHome buttons with double/hold/etc. but I have some outrageous ideas.

A worn out old school 4 button key fob next to a prototype 3d print of a Le’Fob enclosure which is significantly smaller.

Three variant Le’Fob enclosure prototypes in a hand. Two have dots like dice to number buttons 1-4 but the print quality is limited by the feature size and fem printing. le’Fob is a small (~15x50mmx10) rounded rectangle with chamfers. The buttons are created with a squarish zig zag cut out going up the length of the face.

Making a neat little macropad that can live in your usb-c port. I call it Key-Gle - the keyboard dongle. Based on CH552 which is new to me and learning a lot from vibe coding the firmware. Encoding a config blob into 128 bytes is super interesting work so it can be updated in browser without compile

The Key-gle sits atop a finger tip presenting 3 tiny buttons with 2 even tinier buttons between them. A usb-c plug sticks out the back with it's pick-n-place cover still on. The whole package fits nicely within the first inner knuckle and tip of the index finger.

Looking from the side - a Key-gle sits in the right USB-C port of a black Macbook Air while a bright orange/red cable is in the left port. The Key-gle's RBG led on the back of the PCB is set to blue and reflecting off the macbook.

A web interface using a "neobrutalist" design language sporting thick dropshadows has a hero header with KEY-GLE text subheaded by hardware information like serial number and firmware version - a green button shows the device is connected and the row of orange settings forms like boot layer, double tap speed, LED brightness slider and an led timeout option. below the hero is 3 rows representing "layers" their color, and the three button actions on that layer.

Prepping for #teardown2026 and flying to PDX in a week. Thanks to @alpenglow.bsky.social for laser cutting this black LED acrylic for my demo box.

A carry-on sized pellican case is open and has a piece of matte black acrylic filling out most of the lid - there are 3 LED strips glowing rainbow from behind. Two vertical and one horizontal. In the bottom half there is a similarly cut white piece of acrylic with a battery bank, travel router, rapberry pi and a handful of other electronics sitting on it

PwrTool 500 will use ESPHome's managed updates to deliver compiled OTA firmware updates if you choose to run stock. This allows us to push new features and fixes alongside keeping the underlying ESPHome code up to date and secure. If you do wanna hack, I'm looking forward to what y'all come up with.

Makin robots!

A red metal tool cart is upside down and we’re focused on one wheel hanging off the side and much larger than the carts normal casters. It is seemingly held in place by a black 3d print holding a threaded rod acting as an axle. The print is also holding a gear motor that has a small pink 3d printed gear enmeshed with a larger gear (also pink) connected to the inside of the wheel.

Successfully powering my comms closet with USB-C directly from my 24v battery. Each port can do up to 65w and offers 5/9/12/15/20v - still looking for 100w+ PD sources that can work on 48v batteries without a buck inline, but these are more than enough for this.

A piece of plywood pained black mounted in the bulkhead of a school bus holds various electronics components. A mini pc with a large Noctua fan, a SATA ssd with a usb adapter, a 5 port Ethernet switch, and a 10 port set of usb c chargers in a 3D printed enclosure. Most of the ports are occupied by cables.

Thankfully I was able to recover it and it didn’t break though there is a good bit of road rash. I’m impressed tbh, but I def need to make some latches.

The threads on this one popped and I punched myself in the face. I just wanted a some cool pics of me doing weird shit to my microwave in the desert.

This thing actually slaps with a decent holder. Finally got the right idea with a 3d print and stuff I already had around.

Apparently a 2 year old AMD chip is just a gaming pc now. Not only that, but this is on Fedora which it runs flawlessly. Not bad for $650 refurbished from Minisforum.
