So the plan to have my Schitt’s Creek AU ready to post for Roommates & Neighbours month of @redwhiteroyalau.bsky.social went totally out the window, but here’s a snippet of one of my fave scenes anyway!!

Snippet of a fanfic written in Ellipsus reading:

They team up: Nora, Liam, Pez and Bea versus Spencer, Henry, June and Alex. He and June give each other a grim smile. He's pretty sure they're both remembering the Great Monopoly Game of '09, where they'd not spoken to each other for three days afterwards.

Their team gets off to a decent start. On his turn, Spencer does a flawless but silent time warp that has Henry guessing Rocky Horror immediately; to get June to guess Titanic, Alex shoos them off the couch so he can lay across it, cheek propped into his open palm.

To start June's go, she holds up five fingers, then her pointer, and makes a T.

"Five words. First word: the," Alex says confidently, and she nods. Things go off the rails from there.

They're both about to lose their fucking minds when Henry stands up, crosses the room, and picks up Bea's purse from the console table in the hall. He brings it back, stands in front of Alex, then holds it out in front of him and pantomimes being shocked to see it.

Alex stares at him.

"Henry, he's not gonna —" June starts under her breath. Alex scowls at her.

"Let me try this," Henry murmurs.

He looks at Alex, lifts his hand in the air meaningfully, and points at the purse. Again, he pretends to be surprised.

Then it clicks.

"Oh my God, it's the handbag thing." Alex buries his face in his hands while he wracks his brain for the title of the play. "The Importance of Being Earnest!"

Henry beams at him. June looks stunned. Nora flings herself up off the floor in indignation.

"No props!" she yells. "No props, no points! And it wasn't your turn, Henry!"

"I didn't think Alex would get something gay, though," Liam says, shrugging. "Straight ally points, I guess?"

Nora slaps a hand over Liam's mouth. "No. Points.”

"No-one ever is, sugar." She nods at Henry. "Put your luggage in the trunk, honey, then all y'all hop in," she says, giving her truck a hefty tap.

Henry lifts Bea's suitcase, then his own, into the back of the truck. Philip eyes it disdainfully, then clambers into the backseat, keeping a tight hold of his case. Bea scoffs and climbs in next to him, elbowing him once accidentally and once on purpose. Henry smothers a smile and rounds the truck to get in the other side, and as he does so, he sees the pickup is covered with decals and bumper stickers: ‘Mommobile', ‘Honk if you're a feminist', ‘Love wins', 'Y'all means all'. Differently, indeed.

The man stops in his tracks, grin frozen on his face. His eyes drift over Alex from top to toe; Alex stands up taller, throwing his shoulders back. He’s not going to let this entitled prick make him feel small.

“What?” the man asks, still smiling.

Alex stares back at him. “You’ve had your fun, my friend.”

The man quirks a brow and starts walking towards Alex. “Do I know you?”

Alex inhales. “Uh, I’m Alex —” he starts.

“So, I don’t know you,” the man says. He stows his dagger in his belt and comes to a stop in front of Alex, looking at him curiously. “Yet you called me ‘friend’.”

Alex breathes a self-effacing laugh. “That was my mistake.”

“Yes, I think so,” the man agrees.

“Yeah,” Alex says, nodding. “I’d never have a friend who could be such an ass.”
