Big news: County shoppers are using way fewer single use plastic carryout bags thanks to the Bring Your Own Bag Law I led! In only seven months, Sierra Club data show people have ditched plastic bags for reusable bags or no bag, curbing litter and protecting our waterways!
Happy National Farmers Market Week! D4 has so many excellent farmers markets, including in Downtown Silver Spring, Takoma Park, Kensington, Garrett Park, the Crossroads, and the Pike District. Don't forget to check out the area's producers and small businesses at your local farmers market!

As we think about the future of this area beyond office parks, this new park is a jewel of our district. This privately constructed park is officially open to the public and will be maintained by @montgomeryparks.bsky.social
Beautiful job by @montgomeryparks.bsky.social and Erickson Senior Living on the brand new Rock Spring Park! This park has everything from slides to swings to a climbing tower and places for community members of all ages to come together and have fun.
Happy Juneteenth! I look forward to celebrating this important holiday with everyone all weekend long!
Many thanks to SEEC and the Office of Consumer Protection for testifying in favor of Bill 16-26, the Financial Exploitation Protection Act, today. We know our vulnerable populations, such as seniors and adults with disabilities, are targeted in these scams and more tools are needed.
As a result of community advocacy and government partnership, today we toured the Old Farm Creek stream restoration behind Luxmanor ES with Luxmanor and Old Farm residents, D16 state colleagues, and the County Executive.
Great to join Kensington Councilmember Ann Lichter on this beautiful day!
The fifth annual Kensington Juneteenth is an amazing celebration of Black history, culture, and legacy in District 4.
Stopped by the Linden Civic Association block party and caught The Frizz with band members from Blair and Einstein performing in the park! Rock on!
Congratulations to Emma’s Torch on the opening of their new café location and flagship Culinary Training Center in Downtown Silver Spring! Emma’s Torch’s training center will instruct refugees in the culinary arts to prepare them for careers in the food industry.

Today, the Council commemorated National Gun Violence Awareness Month. Gun violence is a public health crisis in this country which affects far too many lives every year. At today’s Council Session, we heard the moving testimony of community members whose lives have been impacted by gun violence.
Great to celebrate Pride in MoCo w/ the raising of the Pride flag in Rockville! Thanks to CM Glass for leading this event for the past 8 years & to all the incredible speakers. It’s so important to continue to show that MoCo is a welcoming place for all residents, including the LGBTQIA+ community.
🏳️🌈 Happy Pride Month! I am so proud to stand with and advocate for Montgomery County's vibrant LGBTQIA+ community.
Unveiled the Heffner Park and Community Center historic marker honoring Lee Jordan’s impact on Takoma Park and role in uniting our community through sports and spaces when public schools and sports were segregated.

My office is closely following the recent rash of vehicle break-ins in Silver Spring. We are in communication with MCPD, who are taking these incidents seriously and investigating.
Many thanks to the @takomaparkmd.gov Youth Council for such an engaging Town Hall at MBHS! I was grateful to join the panel on Youth Voting, especially as we see voting rights in jeopardy for many of our Black and Brown residents across the country with the decimation of the Voting Rights Act.
So grateful to join the Children’s Opportunity Alliance and CHEER for the inaugural Early Care and Education Neighborhood Ambassadors Pilot! We had a wonderful celebration for the end of the program and I got to hear some of the key takeaways from our neighborhood ambassadors.
The sun is out and so is the Crossroads Farmer’s Market! Head on over to grab some fresh produce, flowers, or a snack from one of the many local vendors. Visit the Crossroads Farmer’s Market every Wednesday from 10:30 AM - 2:30 PM on Anne Street.
Wishing a very happy Mother’s Day to everyone celebrating today!
