In just ten minutes at the airport I’ve seen multiple Purdue ads. Multiple Taylor U. ads. Multiple Ivy Tech ads. Zero from IU. Pam pays her comms + marketing team multiple millions of dollars a year. To apparently choose to lose the race in a very visible location.

Of course, officially, not a single drop of this rain has actually fallen! The airport weather station still reports partly cloudy and hot. (That may change in the next 10-20 minutes, as this shower has tried to expand or slightly move westward.)
Radar estimates on the east side of town of already well over half an inch of rain from these really big raindrops. There will be standing water in the usual places, thanks to this.
Summer rain showers are so fun. Fifteen minutes ago nothing, and now, boom, eastern half of town is in light or moderate rain.

Off work today, was just about to head out, maybe go to the mall & grab a late lunch... start walking toward the bus and heard the *boom* of that last one. Okay, guess I'll wait a bit.
Thunderstorm nearby. Thunderstorm overhead. Lightning visible. Thunderstorm nearby. Thunderstorm nearby. Yep, it's a summer weather map in the south.
We had just a bit more of a breeze than this on campus today, so your clothes would still end up wet, but at least for me my face didn’t end up dripping with sweat. (Worse tomorrow and Wednesday though.)
I *think* I finally convinced my 1992 DECpc to actually use a compact flash card as a hard drive. The trick that seems to have worked: EZ-Drive! (I never wanted to take the risk of flashing the BIOS, so this was the path. So far so good.)

In more local news, rain over lunch time + afternoon? And then more rain, hence the reason all our phones lit up for the flood watch this morning.
A summary of the quality of soccer TV coverage in the US: Telemundo showing weather radar for multiple minutes (just flashed off the screen), and then weather safety! And now a view from the stadium. Fox, showing a buffoon.
As I’ve said, you could do an entire class answering (really good!) weather questions from Reddit. These dropout streaks in radar imagery are “beam blockage” caused by adjacent trees or buildings, and it’s a universal problem. See them in the UK (pictured) and lots of radars here in the US too.
The new set of storms back in Illinois have had a couple of tornado warnings but nothing in the last 45 minutes. So mainly another round of rain, with some thunder + lightning. Not expecting us to have any additional tornado risk, but if one pops up, we all know what to do.
I said it would be really hard for them to strengthen much, but they have! Two tornado warnings (and Radarscope causing some weird glitch in the loop) have popped up. Will wait for anything to crop up at or inside the state line before really thinking about it much.
Looking further out, all the other current tornado warnings are storms that will stay south of us. It'll be really hard for any of the cells west of us to strengthen much, now that we have all this rain cooled air. Will watch, but not expecting them to do much. Moderate & flooding rain continues.
